    new lowering option!

    this is 100% experimental

the idea is simple. the assemble is also simple. being the first to do it well that was my job! hehehe

the point is to lower your car and not give up as much rideablity. by now your like what the hell is it. its swappig your front upper strut perch to the top of the strut tower. here are the pics. i will be driving it like this for the next few days then double checking the bolts for looseness and any signs of benting or cracking. you will need to have coilovers for this tho. the stock spring perch will not work if you plan on turning. here are the pics!

    pic1. plasma cut stock mounts.
pic2. stock mounts with new grade 8.8 bolts. these where kind of hard to find in the correct thread pitch. do not use less then grade 8. they will snap off. i broke 4 just with my 1/2"drive ratchet!
pic3. this was a test fit with stock studs. but gives you the idea of wat you would be doing.
pic4. you can see i used the stock nuts. that is because they where teh perfect spacing. there are no gaps between the perch and tower on the top. it will not have a space to play around and come loose (crossing my fingers!)
pic5. top pic of everything put together. the mounts and bolts clear teh hood with no issues. teh strut bar is no higher but on issues there either.
pic6. the old manifold to bar gap.
    pic7. new gap

over all it dropped the car about 5/8" more. but i still have the ride i did before the mod.

this whole car has cost me less the 1000 bucks! the mounts cost me around 50 bucks from start to finish.

Very interesting. I personally prefer the stiffer alternative aftermarket lower springs... but thats a hell of alot better then cutting the stock springs

the truck is a 79 toyota pick up. i wish it was a b-series or atleast a curior seems they are the same. i am runnign coil-overs not springs. this mod wouldn't work with a spring set-up. the upper perch would bang when turning i believe.

i have about 80 miles on the car since i did this. the car feels way different. in a good way. i mean nite and day difference in cornering! lower a car is one thing. raising the geometrics of teh front end and lower the center of gravity is crazy! only bad thing i have had from this is my drives axel is clicking off and on. it used to do it when i would hit hard rights but now its just doing it off and on. i will just swap my bp in and have the new axels in and it will solve that problem.

optimal handling is found by making the control arm as close to horizontal as possible. any deviations from horizontal effect your body roll & other factors.
Take a front shot of your LCA's id like to see the angle on them.
How much did you lower the coilovers.

Interesting idea Neuman. Did you come up with that yourself?

                              What coilovers are you using?
