    Low idle with a twist

My car idles fine, except when in gear. Even with clutch in all the way somehow it knows and idles down to ~100 RPM. Sometimes it stalls but not usually. In neutral ~700 RPM clutch in or out. This is my second LX to have this same exact problem.

It's creepy. Has anybody else experienced it?

Assuming your reading the gauge right. If your idle really is 700 at idle in neutral, etc. then its too low as it should be 850 +/- 100 so thus when it dips a smidge for whatever reason it wants to stall and may sometimes.

when parked with the engine running on a flat surface, put the car in 1st with the clutch depressed. is it hard to put the car in gear, and/or does the car try to creep foreward with the clutch down?

we had this problem with a VW passat, one of the springs on the clutch disc fell apart and there were bits of it jammed between the pressure plate and the disc. this drag caused it to do all this stuff.

No. It feels perfectly normal except for the idle dropping like a stone. Doesn't feel like a clutch/transmission problem, although I can't rule anything out yet.

I'll play with it some tomorrow.

          its your ICS
          its under the throttle body,

          3 screws
          careful of the ruber gasket

they get blocked with "oily gunk" that they suck into from the intake

          get some carb cleaner
flush it out, your idle problems should go away , mine needs doing (again) had blow-by issues with the old motor

take ya throttle body asembly off, its much easier that way
