well to be honest it is very easy to replace everything at once as far as part numbers any dealership should be able to look up with no problem. The base, shift lever and connecting rods are sold as one piece. If you climb under the car and loosen the exhaust every thing comes out nice and easy. Remove the four nuts that hold the base to the car from inside. On the transmission there are 2 bolts that secure the linkage rods to the transmission. That is it. I did not take any pictures when I did this. I also did this while replacing my smoked clutch. I do have a diagram of the linkage set up and when I get home from work I will gladly post it.

      I would appreciate this greatly.

The dealerships here WILL NOT work with me on this 'broken part'. The broken plastic clips don't are simply non existant on the microfilm. The alternative is the salvage yards and that is not a good one. These parts are old and the best we can hope for is to remove the unbroken part and then see if we can fab a replacement part that will last.

The self tapping screw in, does not cut it. If the assembly (like mine) is not precisely where it needs to be then the linkage will be off bait and that makes me a little crazy. I like synchronized shifting. Grinding pisses me off.

I will say for sure that the $200 fix for these pieces of plastic seems expensive to me for the fix.

By seeing your diagrams, I was hoping you had something these piddly dealers don't have.

The Escort and Merc Tracer are also BG chassis and the shift links are the same, and the chance of the problem exists on them all.

      Thanks again kind Sir!

well the problem is not just a piece of plastic. these cars are old and in need of allot of parts the linkage on your car is a wearable item think about how many times you use it plus 20 years of rot take there toll. to . part number is B455-46-100. I paid 191.54 for the complete shift linkage all 1 piece shift lever all the way to the transmission like it came from the factory.

the only thing it does not come with is the pin that connects the one shift rod and the nut and washer that connect the other arm to the stud on the transmission. super easy to do and quick. I think that's 200 dollars

Nice sales pitch for rotting, but rubber and plastic rots (dries out), the steel link rods may rust, but the laws of physics, (as I understand them from the University of Ky), is that metal rusts. Thus said, 'Ford, Mercury, and Mazda' could sell us what we need, but out of greed, is wantonly coercing the customer to become a potential new car buyer. When a true Mazda owner is ready to buy new, we will, and not trade because of a broken piece of plastic. Mine has been broken for 3 years. I double clutch, don't like it much, but it never fails me, towed one time, out of state due to a corroded ground wire on the frame.

Even if I spend $200 +, it's money well spent to thumb my nose at the all so high and mighty 'Dealers'. Screww emm!

          Disclaimer:

I said the above, to any that opposes, can come whoop my arse if you can, I'don't care what I'm thought of, Mazda rules.

Same problem here also, but I went overkill like always and welded the rear half of the linkage from a Del Sol to the Mx3 linkage. One thing Honda did well was their shift linkage. lol
