3rd gen upper strut mounts fit 1st gen

just letting you guys know that they do fit, they look alittle different, the 3rd gen mounts dont stick up as much in the negine bay, the 3rd gen mounts do seem alitle bit stiffer, but not sure.

    might be handy to know.

Hey, you're the guy who figured out 3rd gen springs will fit on the rear, right? So this should solve the 3rd gen front spring issue you were talking about! Nice! So we can officially use 3rd gen springs as long as we snag some front mounts :D Good job!!

Now we need someone to test out the struts, because true coilovers are much easier and less expensive for the 3rd gen compared to ours.

            Any takers??? Enh, enh?

Where does any of that come into play... your jumping ahead too quickly here... strut mounts really have nothing to do with the springs or struts... or even the perches....

If the bolt system to the spindle is the same for BJ versus BG then you "could" use the struts....

As far as im aware no one has yet to have measured the freelength of BJ springs & compare them to the free length of BG springs. all I need is the Bj measurements & i can tell you if they will work decent or not.

the front struts from the 3rdgen will fit the 1st gen also, as long as your using the 3rd gen upper mount.

the reason i changed over to 3rdgen front upper mounts is so i could run front 3rd gen springs.

To use 3rd gen springs you will need the upper strut mounts and upper perch with the bearing that the spring sits in.

so the entire 3rd gen strut/spring assembly is usable. but not the rears?
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

                        ^ hahaha

That really doesn't make any sense, if the mount sits in the body the same BG VS BJ why do you have to use the BJ strut mount. less the strut shaft diameter is totally different.
i can understand using the 3rd gen upper perch & bearing to work with the spring/strut combo but not the mount.

Out of curiosity, 3rd gen from 1999-01 or 02-03? Or the whole 3rd generation, sometimes there tend to be a various during the production or I could be wrong.

So to get this right, with the 3rd gen:

For the front I can use the strut mounts, struts, and springs.
For the rear I can use the springs, but I would have to use 1st gen struts and
mounts. But no 3rd gen struts or mounts.

ok guys, this whole 3rd gen strut thing has already been solved

my friend josh, the guy doing the delrin endlink group buy, is running MX6 ksports on his BG escort. why is this important? mx6 and 3rd gen protege struts are interchangeable . he had to use some washers as spacers in the front (at the spindle, the bg spindles are thinner), and do some welding and drilling on the struts to widen the mounting point in the rear (at the spindle, the bolt spacing on the rear of the BG is more than the mx6/BJ pro). he also had to remove a stud from each of the rear top mounts and file out the hole on the body a smidge.

                            mmmk?
