    timing belt special tool?

I'm checking to see if I have everything I need to replace the timing belt.
the factory service manual says that I need a "special tool" to hold the pulley boss while I remove the pulley lock bolt. Does anybody know where to find this tool, or can I use something else to hold it still to remove the lock bolt?

so you're trying to take the pulley off the crank I'm assuming? if the motor is in the car, put it in gear, have someone step on the brakes while you brake the bolt loose. If the motor isn't in the car, find something to brace the flywheel or flywheel bolts against to stop it from turning.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I always used zip ties and 2 17mm box end wrenches, but there is a tool you can buy at autozone to do the same thing

i didnt use any special tools when i did my timing belt, i took off the crank pulley no problem with my impact gun, and when i put the new belt on my friend used 2 wrenches to hold the cam gears in place while i sliped the belt on, took me about 2-3 hours to do the water pump, timming belt and new tensioner and pully

well when i did the timing belt on my egt a few months ago I had the timing set up just right and slipped the belt on then turned the car on and it sounded all wrong... i looked and realized the oen of the cams had turned a couple of teeth out of time... i took the belt off and kept trying to move them and put the belt on and they kept moving out of time i finally had to put wrenches on them to hold them in place while I put the belt on.. not easy... now on my mx-3 i have adjustable gears so i'm wondering if i'll have trouble doing the timing and intalling the belt then adjusting the timing
