    Idle Screw Location on B6D?

Okay, I've looked and looked for this info, I ordered a manual for my B6D, but haven't received it and I believe I need to turn the idle up or advance the timing slightly on the disti, but I was going to turn the idle up as a start. Maybe you can tell me what would be better, my car idles really well at around 800rpm's, but it'll drop closer to 500 if I sit for a little bit and the idle becomes rough and a little hard to get it moving if I don't rev it. I use 89 octane as I found the car runs smoother and does idle better on it so I'm wondering if I need to just advance the timing, which I can do.

    Thanks for your help,
    MrH.

My car does that too, it's hard to explain why tho. I've heard people solved this issue when changing their alternators. Seems like the alt will lower its load when idling maybe? Which could possibly drop your idle. Assides from that the idle screw should be on your throttle body close to your wheel. Check your timing too tho, run premium and raise it to 16* or so.

Yea run at lest 90 or even 91 octane (depends where you are). That is more refined gas, most cars run better on it.

Check your air filter too also check your fuel filter. At idle your engine isnt pulling a lot of air or fuel so there is not as much force behind it. A clogged filter can cause light airflow or fuel flow to be blocked or restricted.
Block is almost done, cylinders are overboard for Weisco pistons, pro gram billet main caps have been line bored, and my chinese EDT rods have been machined to right specs. Everything has been balanced.

Yeah, I know I need to run 91 if I advance my timing, but my car didn't like 91 as it sits, but loves the 89, so that's what I'm running for now. I just put half a tank of 89 in so I'll wait until I get closer to E before I advance the timing. I also ordered NGK's top Iridium plugs so that the fuel burns efficiently because that's the way it feels right now, like the fuel isn't getting burned completely as you can smell a hint of fuel in the exhaust, but I didn't have this problem about a month ago so I think I may have shortened the life on my Platinum plugs by Seafoaming the motor and getting all the deposits out.

I have a new fuel filter on the motor, I had it put in when the swap was done, but thanks for the info.

I'd try swapping out your alternator if you have a spare one then. I don't really mind my idle going from 900 to 500rpm tho, less gas consumption! lol

My friends 94 Probe GT had a steady SMOOTH idle at around 500-550, i couldnt believe it. I was envious

I got it corrected slightly, it stays around 700-750 under normal conditions and the idle hasn't dropped when idling, but the idle still needs to come up as it's still a little hickuppy from a dig, but I'll keep working on it and I'll look for another Alt and Battery as I need to replace that as well.

            Thanks,
            MrH.

mine does that too when the fan turnes on, it's cause the power in our cars suck, a battery upgrade and alt will fix it.

99.999999% of the time you should never touch your idle speed
