i should grab a brand new set of plugs and see how they look after a bit.

also i am only running 9psi while you probably just skip right past that part of the map as you spool your way to 15

It's more or less a linear progression in the boost area for me. I pulled 1 degree of timing from the boost section. We'll see how the plugs look after this. Of course for a really good analysis you need to pull them right after you do a boosted pull, but that's hard to do on city streets so I'm shooting for some margin.

My electrode is not worn down at all, so the timing should be just about right and fuel looks to be in the right spot as well.

ive got a 1 mile back-road straight right next to my house... so i can blast up the road, turn around, blast back down, and coast into my driveway. idle down and shut it off, then pull the plugs

We deliberately pulled a lot of timing above 100 kPa, and a little below it.

While we have Miata dyno results on the MSPNP site, the timing map on the dyno was a bit more aggressive. However, the shape of the map below 100 kPa is about the same as on our NA tests - it's just got a bit of timing pulled in the posted map. Like I said, this map is more about caution than all out power. I've posted it because I thought the shape might be useful for comparison purposes.

As far as Jacob's map, I have always said either that's a a map that was never on the car or his ignition trigger angle was off by a bunch. It is NOT possbile to be running that much advanced under boost. Plus running over 34deg of advanced in the no boost area, you are actually loosing power.

Lex you are right, you have a slight detonation which is probably around the max torque area at just over 10PSI which is what I was experiencing. just drop the advance couple of degrees around 3800-5000 RPM under boost and you should be good to go.

The big problem is right around the maximum torque area where the cylinder pressure is the highest. In my case it's around 4-5000RPM. Ass soon as I pass that I can even run close to 17-18 deg of advanced in 18PSI and I can't hear any detonation and EGT's look good. I will confirm that on the dyno. But based on experience and what I think, there will be a small drop in the advanced right around max toqrue and then I will raise the advanced in the higher RPM's to get some POWA.

We deliberately pulled a lot of timing above 100 kPa, and a little below it.

It is great that you guys are posting and helping the community. Really appreciated. I have always supported diyautotune for the many megasquirt purchases I've had through them. Really professional and helpful. KEEP IT UP!!!

                Cheers,

i may be interested in "borrowing" your timing map after you tune it on the dyno . lol

i cant afford dyno time right now, unfortunately. i didnt skimp on much of anything while building the car but now i cant afford to tune the damn thing right

Yeah, I will post it up when I am done with it. Remember this will be with 9:1 compression pistons Wiseco pistons. So you might have to twick it a bit for the GTR pistons. You might even be able to run a little bit more timing, I don't know if it would give you more power or not though.

the plugs looked a lot cleaner this morning after a couple of runs on the way to work with one degree of timing pulled. No more peppering at all so I might be spot on. I might drop it a degree or two around that 10-12psi area in the high torque curve but so far so good. The car felt like it pulled quite hard as well.

Thanks, BCRX! Who knows, sometime we may have some dyno tuned maps from an Escort or Protege to post here alongside our Miata map.

Omid, did you get to spend some time on the dyno?

Aug 11 is the day. I am tuning a turbo Miata on MS as well. So we will compare that to my numbers. The miata is 1.6, so it should give a nice base map for some of the B6T guys.

Jacob also utilized Somender grooves in his head which will help direct the flame front into the areas under the quench. this is supposed to help reduce detonation, skepticizim is there. but this "COULD" be another reason for more timing in his map
