Thanks Lex, we're mainly focusing on the upper end for now since it's a NA BP, but I'll definitely play with the lower end later on!

      OK here's my timing advance.

      I run JE 9:1 pistons, 400kpa MAP sensor, MS1, MSD HVC 6, BKR6E plugs, 91 unlead, 25 psi.

      Here's a pic of a plug now. I run at cruise, 17:1 AFR from 25 to 100KPA, 12.5:1 AFR from 135 to 203KPA (5 to 15 psi), 12:1 AFR 237 to 272KPA (20-25psi).

It's known that BP eat plugs. I noticed that my plug's gap tend to "extend", after several use. It's a BP typical problem. I gap my plugs to 0.035" and after lots of hard pulls at 20 psi and more, (over a week) the plug's gap reach 0.045" and at that time, anything over 20psi will make the engine to misfiring of back firing. So at that time, I gap down the plug and I can run back high boost. I tried once to use iridium or platinium plug and the same problem occur faster. Since you can't really gap an iridium plug @ 20$ each...

everything's above is tuned with my g-tech pro. Once you know it works, you can easily compare acceleration vs. MS datalog.

So you are using BKR6e? Why not BKR7e?

yeah i have never had a problem with my motor "eating plugs"

^ Maybe you don't run enough boost? lol, I kid...

running the colder BKR7E plug might help with the "plug eating" problem, since essentially you are vaporizing the electrode with excess heat. could cause deto problems as well...

I might be trying the colder 7 plug, I did anyway. This so far the 10th GTR that I played with for the last 5 years, and it's always like that when going daily 20psi or more. The gap is important. Any gap higher than 0.040" above 20 psi, will make engine backfiring. If you keep the stock gap, it will hold 17-18psi max. That's my conclusion.

When I say eat, the plugs dosen't have to be changed, only need to be gapped. The plug shown in the picture, as been removed for excess gap. I drove it for 2 weeks going twice to 1/4mile track, and doing lot of acceleration on highway. Done so far 1000km with it. I could ride it again, but at a lower pressure, not more than 17-18psi.

As for the exaust temp, my digital pyrometer mounted in manifold (right before the turbine) never show more than 1650 celcius under 25psi. So there's no overheat in combustion due to lean air/fuel mixture or too much advance.

1650 degrees C is an insane 3000 degrees F. Does the pyro even read that high? That sounds excessive to me. Another note is that ignition advance actually makes your car run "cooler" in terms of EGT. When you see EGTs that are too high, it's likely due to TOO LITTLE advance.

                    yeah 1650 C is a little insane...

i keep mine gapped to .032 running ~23psi and i've never had an issue with them wearing out or opening up.

the "back firing" you are getting is spark blowout

He is running a higher voltage ignition system so the slightly higher gap shouldn't be a problem. Why it's eating plugs is beyond me though, I'll have to check mine.

lol, sorry my pyro is rated in F, my fault. yeah 3000F would have melt a piston in a second

At idle I get 1050 at 11:1 of AFR, at cruise like 3000rpm 1400 and under high boost 1650.

I finally had the time to check my plugs yesterday, holy damn, the gap went from 0.036 to 0.044 in 2 months of abuse. No wonder I had spark blowout in 2nd and up at 16-17 psi.

Regapped the plugs to 0.038 and now it's perfect, no hesitation all the way to 20 psi, smooth idle. I gapped them high since I'm running toyota COPs which seem to be more powerful than the stock setup and without wire loss.

Lets see how long it would take before regapping.

Can anyone post their ignition maps?

just want to see how mine compares.
