    Tire comparison

List your tire experiance. Give a detailed comment on your impressions of tires that you have run. List as many as you want. Don't comment on what other ppl say about the tire the listed. If you've run that same tire do your own list and comment. All needless posts will be deleted. Here's an example of what it should look like.

    Brand: Dunlop Direzza DZ101
    Treadwear: 300
    Traction: A
    Temperature: A
Tire size: 205/50/15 - on stock 15x5.5" escort GT wheels
    Tire rating: VR
Price paid: $60 per tire minus a $50 rebate? it was a while ago.
Bought from: www.discounttiredirect.com (free shipping! i love this place)
What you use it for: daily driving, beating up the twisties, scaring ricers
Impressions: when i first put these tires on i noticed a slight "floaty" feeling at highway speeds. increasing the pressure to 38psi helped a lot, but its still there. ive gotten used to it now and dont even notice unless i think about it. in my opinion they corner GREAT, but this is my first summer tire... so my opinion is a bit biased. in the rain they were originally excellent, but now they seem to hydroplane a little now that the tread is down some. they have worn out pretty fast... well, the front has... i guess boost will do that

      Brand: Bridgestone Potenza G009
      Treadwear: 460
      Traction: A
      Temperature: A-
Tire size: 205/50/15 - on aftermarket 15" rims
Price paid: $120.00/tire +road hazard and some others (total $800.00!)
Bought from: Firestone store (i know... ouch)
What you use it for: daily driving/drag/spirited driving
Impressions: The tires take a little longer than i was used to, to warm up, and seem to cool very quickly also. They make a surprising amount of noise while stopping or cornering. However, they have great wet and dry traction (even cool). They also have an amazing life time to them. After many hard stops, they never skidded or hyroplaned. ive put well over 40,000(warrantee) miles on a set, and they were bald as hell, but still managed to be good tires, never faultered under my light chassis. i have a lot of faith in them. Also, seems to still work great while full of nails.
Dont me be like me; get them from tirerack.com and save a couple hundred $$.

      Trying next: General Exclaim UHP

              On the Protege:
              Brand: Toyo Proxes FZ4
              Treadwear: Mediocre
              Traction: Tons
              Temperature: Good all around really
              Tire size: 205/45 16
Price paid: $63 each back in early '05
              Tire rating: high performance all-season
Bought from: Tires N Parts through eBay
Used for: Street driving but also twice at the drag strip
Impressions: Started out great, very smooth, quiet, tons of grip dry or wet, not greatly affected by temperature either. However, Toyo tires have a very soft compound and these tires wore out very unevenly. They do not like my driving style of hard cornering and some wheel spin. The sidewalls are weak and to counter wear on the side tread blocks I ran them inflated a little higher than normal and the inside tread wore out...the rears are seemingly fine but the fronts are just about done. They were great in the rain til about 50% done then they would hydroplane very easily. The tires have ~16,000 miles on them and the fronts have probably 8% tread left til bald...the backs are around 75%. Odd...

              On the Miata:
              Brand: Bridgestone Potenza RE-750
              Treadwear: Good
              Traction: Awesome
Temperature: Driveable in any temp but very good above 65F
              Tire size 195/50/15
              Price paid: $84 each IIRC
Tire rating: High performance summer only
Bought from: Mazda Dealer tire program(which is from TireRack)
What you use it for: Driving
Impressions: Best tires ever. Very smooth but lots of traction...my Miata loves them. Great in the rain, not great in the snow(not much is on a Miata). Very even treadwear. These tires have a great grip to slip transition so that when driving a little more spirited than I should, they give me the feel to know what I can and can't do, so when I want to kick the back end out it's a very predictable reaction. Wanted to buy a set for my Protege but Bridgestone has let me down and these tires are no longer made. GAH!!!

                On my Escort GTX:

                Brand: BFGoodrich g-force t/a KDW2
                Treadware: 300
                Traction: AA
                Temperature: A
                Tire Size: 205/45ZR16
Tire Rating: Ultra High Performance Summer W-rated (168mph/270kmh)
Price Paid: They came mounted on a set of enkei rims I got from some guy for $600`barely used. They sell at tire rack for about $125 each
What it`s used for: Daily driving, drag racing, taking corners really fast
Impressions: These are the first set of “performance” tires I`ve owned. Now I don`t know what other performance street tires are like, but these seem pretty sticky to me. Especially when cornering hard. And they are really good in the rain too. Definatley NOT for use on snow or ice though lol. They turn into skis on icy or snowy roads.

Impressions: These are the first set of tires I`ve purchased in this size. I only have a thousand miles on them now but so far they handle excellent for how i drive. they are good in the rain. this winter i will let you know how they do and what i think of them then. but for someone on a budget these are a pretty good tire.

What it`s used for: Daily driving
Impressions: I bought these to upgrade to a better tire for my 95 escort lx. i was tired of those skinny tires. these were a bit wider but close to stock 175/65r14 diameter. these have a nice ride and have handled pretty good in the rain also. i have put about 5,000 miles on these and they are wearing good so far. once again a decent tire for the money and i will post later how they are in winter driving.

Impressions: My first summer tire but i am nothing but impressed. Stock equipment on my car and it handles amazingly. Tires stick without complaint on dry roads. Wet they stick still, but not as good. Hydroplane easily at highway speed hitting puddles. Advice: Avoid puddles on highway. Otherwise, these tires are amazing.

Bought From: Whitelaw Performance $100/ea, thats at a discount (Canadian pricing sucks)
Used for: spirited driving, cornering at ridiculous speeds

Impression: I only spin in 1st and have a little chirp in 2nd. They make little noise when pushed but I have 35psi in them and am rolling them a bit in the corners (they have reinforced side walls) so I want to try 40psi. On wet roads I can hammer it in 4th without spinning and with minimal spin in 3rd.

Tread wear seems excellent so far. This is all on a 323 with a bpt at 13psi kyb gr2 struts and canuck motorsports springs (discontinued) with kyb "competition" strut plates. The car will take 90deg corners (curbed intersection of 2, 2 lane roads in a closed parking lot, same as most residential street corners) at 80-90 kph without a sound from the tires. On an autox course I almost had my lil bro (riding shotgun wearing a seatbelt) almost slide into me out of the passengers seat. I guess he wasn't ready for how grippy it is now?

Ride comfort is pretty good for a low profile reinforced tire as well, a bit rougher than my gf's stock bj pro but not much (she has nexen n2000's on her car).

Never tried Nitto. Have heard rumors that they wear down pretty quick. Since my last post I have tried Kuhmo's on the GT (didn't like them), BFGoodrich (good tires) and now I'm on to Yokohamas (the ones that replaced the ES100s.... love these tires). I heard that these wear down fairly quick but I'm not experiencing that. Besides, it helps that the GT is only about 2200 pounds.

                              Test Inflation Pressure: 36 psi
Impressions: Perfect fit under all cornering and loading conditions, no contact with any part of the car. Excellent all-around performance, wet or dry. I can engage in high speed, hard cornering with absolute confidence. Highly responsive turn-in capability. Extremely stable and grippy at high speeds on wet roadways in heavy rain whether straight line, lane changing, or braking. Little tendency to hydroplane when running through standing water, even at high speeds. The center rib section of the tread is solid rubber (ungrooved) to maximize the size of the contact patch with the road. The car tracks straight, true and vibration-free at speeds up to 110 mph, the fastest I've run them so far.

The tires are a bit harsh over bumps and uneven road surfaces, at least in the 205/45 size, and also slightly noisy, so if this is a consideration keep it in mind when making your decision. Because of the slightly smaller overalll diameter of the tire/wheel combo compared with stock, the TireCalcs indicate that the resultant speedometer error causes the instrument to read .78% too fast. I consider this a negligible error.

I'm quite happy with the performance of these tires for their intended use and don't regret my choice.

                              Bought From: Discount Tire Direct
Used For: Daily driving, cold weather (snow) use
                              Test Inflation Pressure: 36 psi
Impressions: I bought these tires primarily due to the top rating they received in the Consumer Report's November 2007 tire test. Perfect fit under all cornering and loading conditions, no contact with any part of the car. Excellent cornering ability in both wet and dry conditions for an all-season tire but still noticeably below the level reached by my summer only Yokos, as would be expected. Turn-in is very rapid and precise. Hydroplaning is not a problem when running through standing water even at higher speeds. In light snow, the tires exhibit decent traction, far superior to the treacherous behavior of the OEM Bridgestones that used to serve as my cold-weather tires. The tires are very quiet but do ride somewhat harshly which may be a function of their 205/45 size.

Compared with the Yokos, the Falkens are at the narrow end of the nominal 205 tread size they both share, along with a reduced section width. Consequently, there's not much, if any, rubber buffer extending outside the edge of my 7" wide rims, forcing me to be extra careful when parallel parking to avoid curbage.

After considerable use I can confidently state that these tires are a good choice if wet and dry cornering and overall handling, as opposed to ride comfort, are prime considerations for your daily driver. They lack the ultimate stability, cornering force and wet performance of the summer Yokos, but if I had to run all season tires year round, these Falkens would be my current, absolute first choice with which I could very happily live.

                              Happy Motoring!
