Code reader/scanner for 1995 Tracer LTS

Help!! I just learned my '95 Tracer LTS is OBD I and not compliant with the standard Ford OBD I engine code readers. Does anybody know who sells engine code readers for my car that are affordable for shade tree mechanics?

there is a procedure to read the codes using nothing but a paperclip and your check engine light... there's gotta be a walkthrough somewhere around here or on the FEOA.net website

Jump TEN and GND in the diagnostics port and the CEL light will flash the code.

That's shady tree mechanics. Try J.C. Whitney or Harbor Freight. Maybe they sell a cheapo one even though the method above works just fine. It's just less convenient.

auto zone does it for free on OBD ll set ups and mazda cars including the tracer and escort and othe cars the same have a specific adapter for the scanner. it is a mazda only adapter. im a firestone tech so know what i am talking about. lol. anyway the best way is to bite the bullet and take to shop to read code or just try to figure it out. start with 02 sensor most likely on the BP motor. and i found this out do not have to reset on these cars. once problem is fixed lght will shut off on it self. mazda self adapting lol.

oh and in addition the code auto zone would give you is just that a code. you would still have to find out what the code or codes stand for more time consuming. where as the shop should have a pretty updated scanner and can tell you exactly what the problem is and where. then just fix it your self if by chance light does not go out for some odd reason can always reset ECU by disconnecting the neg. terminal for ten minutes, reset the whole computer and your god damn clock, son of a bitch. lol.

Why guess at what the code is? Just jump TEN and GND in the diagnostics connector, and count how many long and short blinks your CEL does. Then look up what it means. No need for any fancy code reader that does the same thing. The CEL codes in our cars are few and simple.

The AutoZone near me has a regular Actron orange scanner that gives the code and reads out what it is so you get both right away. How do I know? They loan them also. I rented one and had to return it within 30 days. I didn't and was forced to buy it. They then open up a new one so they have two or three available. Ofcourse, that's on OBDII interior ports. They're the same on Mazda, Ford & Nissan. How do I know it's not just Mazda? I also own an old Nissan and it works on there too. You must be talkling about the connector under the hood.

our autozones that are here only hear of OBD ll setup codes. but never used them when i can just do it at work so could be wrong just word on the grape vine. lol and true there are not many codes for these cars. that is why they kick ass, easy to work on.
