    I say this because there is a '94 mx3 near me that is near perfect, safe front end damage. If the front suspension isn't too shafted, I plan to take it all. I'll help settle some of this v6 vs. i4 differences (assuming its the b6)
    No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

      easiest way to check is to see if it has rear drums or not.

      drums = b6
      disks = k8

      i'm gonna go out on a limb and say IT'S ALL THE SAME. Ever notice how mx3s aren't 1" wider in the front than the rear? LOL

        I pulled off the TTLs from an I4 MX-3 last weekend and I have spare Protege TTLs. Side-by-side the MX-3 TTLs are longer, specifically the distance between the bolt holes and not just the overall length.

        I wanted to get some pics this week, but work has ben very busy and I'm damn tired when I get home.

                JACK.

                Most mazdas use different rear lateral links for drum vs disc brakes.

                The over all width should be the same because the drum assembly is thicker.

                So if you want an even wider track for your base mx3 swapping GS lats and rx7 balljoints should work out nicely.

                PS: I drive a 2G mx6 and though I havent done it yet it appears that the mx3/protege LCA's will swap to the GE chassis too. The rear bushing/bracket will need to be swapped though.

                  the TTLs on my 323 are the same compared to my protege GT. Only differences are escorts and mx3 for our chassis variation.

                  Also your GE chassis note, i'd double check that, or try to swap them.

                    So one of your cars is drum then? I know the GE and BJ chassis's use 2 seperate PN's for the drum/disc rear lats.

                    I mocked the MX3 LCA on to a probe at the JY and it fit dimentionaly but it was cold out so I never did the complete swap.

                      I tried the same thing with the 2nd gen RX-7 lower control arm when i discovered the balljoint thing, while very close to a BG,but not close enough i am afraid. I think it could be modded to work, but I don't think it would be worth it. I have pics but I need to find them.

                        Oh yes I tried the same thing years ago but the rx7 lca is to thick near the rear bushing and will hit the subframe under compression.

                        It's because it's forged alloy where the steel lcas on tho B and G chassis all use basicaly the same construction.

                        The rear bushing bracket is also different but thats workable.

                          I just came from the junkyard (it's almost a hobby now) and found a few things out for those who can't find MX-3 GS springs, or might not want to chance increasing ride height.

                          When it comes to coil springs, here's how it boils down:

                          Front springs:
                          323, Protege = smallest diameter spring
                          Escort, Escort GT = thickest spring of the group

                          Rear Springs:
                          323 = smallest diameter
                          Protege, Escort = thicker spring
                          Escort GT = even thicker spring!

                          There is a visible difference in the diameter of the smallest to the largest coils - ranging from under to over a millimetre, which I would imagine would give a decent increase in spring rate (forgot my callipers, sorry - but if anyone's actually interested, I can bring them when I go back again).

                          After I replaced my worn struts, I swapped out the front springs for the Escort ones and there was a definite firming-up of the front end.

                          Also, no discernable difference in ride height, either. My thoughts are, considering the similar weight of these vehicles, they would probably try to keep the approximately the same height, especially between the Escort and Escort GT?

                          I didn't have time to completely pull the rear springs off the Escort GT before the wrecker closed today, considering I busted a socket trying to get the nut off. It's mostly done, so I'll go back tomorrow and install within the next few days.

                          Also picked up that Escort GT's rear sway bar - a noticeable different in diameter and weight. Lucked out with some like-new polyurethane bushings on a Protege so, two quickly broken bolts later, they were mine!

                          Probably not much use for most of you folks , but for the penny-pinchers trying to make a better and more fun DD using funds equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product of a small uninhabited iceberg in the Antarctic, like myself, this might come in handy.
                          Project 'Mazda Missile' - 1990 323

                          Stuff done: Not lots.
                          BP power and trans. B&G springs and Tokico S/R struts. EGT front/rear sway bars. DIY front/rear strut tower braces. MX3 GS rear tie bar. Pro GT(?) wheels. MX3 front & rear seats. Beige int panels now black! Low-buck MP3 H/U and door speakers. Infinity BassLink sub. Remote starter. Pro GT gauges, now with extra redness.

                          Stuff wanted done: Lots.
                          EGT big front brake/rear disc brake conversion (awaiting install). Fog lights in grille (close to ready). Fogs as DRLs (researching).
