Inspection Problems: OBD II 1997 ES

Right so I've bought the Protege, registered him, and had my 10 days to get him inspected. I was happy, driving Brody around. But when I went in for inspection I had a problem.

Everything with the physical inspection went fine, however for some unknown reason, the OBD II sensors keep reading Not Ready. Now I've driven it for a couple days, and even did the drive cycle test on it and for whatever reason, the damn thing just will not pass the tests. The previous owner had NO problems whatsoever.

Now I'm wondering if there is a master tech here who might know what the problem is or how to fix it. I'd do it at the dealership I got it from, however there is a snag. The master tech there is sore because I got it from under him (he wanted it something awful) and I"m worried he'll pull a "O well it'll cost like $1,000. Better sell it to me so you can save yourself the hassle." and I wanted a second opinion before I asked him.

ive heard of a lot of early obd2 cars having this issue... i know a guy with a 97 mirage with the same problem. in his case, it is an inherant fault in the ECU where the readiness codes reset every time the car is shut off.

the only way to get it to pass was to run a complete drive cycle to clear the readiness codes... keep the car running, drive straight to the emissions place and have them plug it in, without ever shutting the car off.

Just a though, maybe reset the ECU. I know computers as a whole can get in funky states and sometimes the only thing to do is reset it.

          disconnect the negative battery cable.
press and hold the brake pedal down for about 10sec.
you'll see the interior lights dim and go away.

If the computer is the problem then getting another computer would correct the problem. The chances of getting another bad one are slim to none since this problem is so rare. The problem is getting a 97 ES computer. That would be hard to come by.

If I were to reset it, wouldn't all the driving that I'd done basically been for naught? But if I did reset, would I just have to drive it for like 100 miles and then do the drive cycle?

Well I've taken this bad boy out and everything passed (on my friends dyno pda)!! However, as soon as the sensors are working, I get a P1195 code running up. Right now I'm looking for fixes, but might have to take it in to the shop. Insh'Allah I will be able to find a fix but until then I'm open to suggestions.

(btw we just needed to reset the ecu)

K, so it's apparently an EGR boost sensor circuit problem and now I'm looking for the way to fix it.

Well according to my friends all data, the code refers to the sensor and not the valve. We followed the diagnostic and are testing it out now.
