you could easily up the mpg with a BP though. My Protege GT got the 25/30 with a crap load of bolt ons. Then if i lowered the fuel pressure for long highway trips i would see around 35-36mpg.

Hmmmm. I might see about what the price difference would be building the bp. Since I have a b8, I just need to find another block, head, etc.

With the BP I need the computer, and what else to make it work?

PSSST.....SOHC block same as DOHC block just different pistons and rods

P.S. I have 3 good DOHC pistons and 4 dohc rods for sale All you'd need to do is buy 1 from the dealer. Let me know I'll give you a great deal on them.

hmmmm. I may just build a bp then, and use an external fuel pressure regulator for gas milage. Thanks Turnpro.

What else would I need for the BP swap?

Fixed lol. I have a set of bp injectors also. They're on an escort rail though but I'm sure those escort guys would tell you what you need to do too make that work(not like it's going to be any feat to make them work).

              ecu
harness(I've seem others use the sohc one)
              intake manni
              exaust manni
              ect ect

Just grab a bp out of a jy lol. If you need those pistons, rods and rail with injectors I'll ship them all for 60 bucks.

I may just biuld another b8. I think that If I get ANY horse power what so ever I would be anxious to race a honda. A ragedy blk auto civic tried to race me yesterday at a stop light in a 35mph zone, and if I would have had a bpt and a decent clutch I would have dusted is ass. So i think a little 115hp b8 will keep me and my driving privilages legal!

If you stick with the sohc have a little fun with it and raise the compression. Sohc comes 8:2 I believe and dohc is 8:8. Slap the dohc pistons in the sohc motor . Look at my fs thread in my sig. My prices dropped big time. Not trying to push my parts but if you got the dohc pistons and rods from me or wherever that would be a little bit of a jump in power. Then you can do some p&p on the head. Micro polish the crank. Dohc throttle boddy swap. Hmm, I'm trying to think of more ways for you to get more power out of that sohc.

Sounds good to me! Right now I'm just trying to get done with school for the semester. I def will try to find a decent motor to start with, but I need to talk to some machine shops and see how much they will charge to ring the pistons and what not first. Money is not in abundance

Nah man, no spoiler needed on that thing unless you find a lip spoiler, but I think the Protege is an pit bull without the spoiler on it no matter what year it is.

You've made excellent progress on your ride man!
