    just a couple heads up:

better keep all the sensors for teh fan and cooling stuff off your 323. you will need to use some of them on the ford bp do to the ohm loads being different.

running 205/50/15 will make your speedo run slow. 195/50 is the correct size for the 323 speedo. you will also need the protege LX speedo sender. the f series one will nto work.

I know you may not remember me, but I was back on the ERDT boards before the great "WTF" happened and everything was lost for a while.

Anycyase, if I use the F-series trans with the BP and use a 323 cluster, I will be okie-dokie? If needed, I'll simply swap pure Mazda sensors onto the Escort harness (planned on changing sensors for a maintenance thing anyways) and be good to go?

      Tell me which option I am looking at here;
      1. Automatic harness + Automatic ECU + 323 Cluster + Protege Temp sender + F-series trans and speed sender
      2. Automatic harness + Automatic ECU + Escort Cluster + Escort Temp sender + F-series trans and Protege speed sender
      3. Get a 5-speed harness and ECU from Protege (shoot me a PM if you want to crack me a deal on that shipped to Sarnia, Ontario, by the way)

What option(s) will work? Which is best?

1 or 3 would be the best/easiest imo

the speedo cable and sender is untouched if your using the motor only from the EGT

the big problem lays in the ecu but its a good thing.

the ecu is ford. so you will need the following things.

              - the sensor under the dizzy on the front of the block. the coolant deal needs to be mazda. be it from your b8 or b6.

              - the sensor on your theromostat housing needs to be ford.

              - the sensor just behind it needs to be ford also. this is the green plugged.

you do that and everything will work just fine. it took me liek 3 months to get all the bugs worked out. its hard to find the sensors at the parts stores. they look at you cross-eyed.

my bp swapped 323 was a whore:

              protege auto harness
              ford auto ecu
              ford bp
              323 hb cluster

my whole swap cost me like 600 bucks up and running! 75 was just for a new water pump. that i found out was bad after the swap. LOL

                Front bumper pulled off.

                Rear subframe coming out.

                And it's out.

The parts pile in all it's glory.

Pulled off the P/S and A/C since I won't be using either in the 323.

                All done for tonight.

On the rear subframe, it had the brake lines skipping the "distribution" block for the rear brakes. It was just two lines running directly to the brake hoses. The block was there, with 4 broken and very rusted line in it (two in, two out), but wasn't in the current operation. What kind of funk will that cause I wonder?

not much ... the lines are cheap to replace and the block would be a dealer only item but still not hard to find

nice info, im swaping a bp motor (from a 90 pro) and bp harness (91 egt) and inerfacing it with the 88 323 bf underdash harness, with 1.8 dohc gtx injectors and ecu and a small .42/.48 t3into my 88 323,this info might help me down the line.

Starting out this morning. Slammed, yo.

Out come the rear seats and manual seatbelts.

Front carpet pulled. I might as well keep it since it was in pretty good knick.

Everything I need out of the engine bay.

                            Up she goes!

And roll it over to grab the front subframe before it goes back to the yard.

God, I love having that electric impact now.

This is a Ford Escort. Well, at least the useful bits.

                            Hey there ugly.

                            Starting off.

                            Radiator out.

                            Intake system out.

                            A/C lines properly removed.

                              Headlights also out.

                              Front passenger wheel well.

There's a small hole in the driver's well. Arg, I was hoping to avoid much of this. At least it's a small spot.

Bumper off. It helps get the forklift a little bit closer to the center of the motor.

There's really not a lot to there 323 body harness. There's one small 1/2" bundle worth of wires running down the passenger side.

Fuse panel unplugged. Identical setup to the Escort (went out and cut the body harness section of the Escort in case the fuse panel connections are different).

See ya later Escort! You've been a champ.

Driver's side ball joint out. Axle popped out.

Same story on the passenger side.

                              Axles out.

                              The 323 GT? Yes.

My shoplight ran out of bulbs, so I made a quick shoplight out of an Escort headlight. Worked alright.

                              323 ECU and harness removed.

                              Motor ready to be removed.

                              Time to rock.

                              Just about out...

                              ...and it's out.

The 323 + Escort parts pile.

                              All tidied up for tonight.

Overall, the motor came out MUCH easier from the 323. Of course, the motor removal was identical to the Escort, so it mainly an experience.
