    BG AWD Undercarriage Photos

Alright, in an attempt to educate everyone i'd like to see some pictures of the underbody of the 4wd. If you have the chance to put your 4wd on a lift and take a few quality shots that would be great. Perhaps this will cut down on all the people thinking that AWD protege bits will bolt right up to their FWD BG... since anyone can clearly see that it is WAY different.

Here's what i have to contribute, from when my exhaust was installed. I forgot my real camera so they are crappy cameraphone pics

you can note that there is no front subframe, just a bracket that each LCA bolts to and a thin brace between them at the bottom. the floor pan is 100% different from front to rear, with different mounting points in the back for the subframe and a different tunnel with brackets for driveshaft carrier bearings.

Next time I'm in CA with my Protege, I'll take pics of the under-side. You're car looks like the back end was sitting in the ocean... LOL The front end looks pretty decent though. The front end actually has 2 small subframes, one for each side, with that tie plate between them. I bent that when I drove over a big rock a few months ago, along with bending/denting all three drive shafts to the rear and crushing in the exhuast a bit.

I climbed under mine when I picked it up, but as it was sitting in the driveway, I couldn't really fit too far under there.

I'll see if I can't get it up on at least some ramps for some photos one of these days..

this thread is about why it is so hard to do

good luck. i installed a transmission from a toyota camry and IMO it was way easier than trying to convert to awd.

ps: try some better tires and an LSD first
