thanks for the offer eric. Kia, escort, probe, protege... doesnt really matter. the diff is the same, aside from the spline count its a direct fit. I have a spare 28 spline diff and a couple 26 spline diffs... so we should have plenty to work with. i also have both an early and late style case and secondary shaft (narrow/wide ring gears) if needed. again, the dimensions of the diff itself are identical, so it shouldnt really matter what width ring gear you are using or which case its going into.

if we only make one version i believe we should go with the 28 spline like the quaife. a lot more cars use this design, and the kia axles work perfectly for every 26 spline car except the 97+ escorts. i'm hoping that we can have a 26/28 spline option but mfactory will probably have to compare both stock differentials before they can make a decision on that.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A SET OF ARP STUDS/NUTS FOR THE QUAIFE???? if we could send a sample in, that would be the quickest/easiest/cheapest way to make a replacement. i dont really have the time to pull my tranny just to loan out a bolt.

adding some info to the first post...

also, i linked the Mfactory rep that ive been emailing to this thread, so hopefully we'll see him here pretty soon

i know that, but if its a matter of doing a completely seperate group buy for a 26 spline diff... i think that going 28 spline would be a better idea. MANY more applications.

the problem is you're in canada so you never got the 1.8 sephias there at all

as i said i'm going to push to have 26 spline as an option (maybe at an additional cost). even if its an extra $100, you wont have to source an intermediate shaft and buy new axles... so it'd be worth it. it would be especially worth it for zx2/3rd gen escort guys, since they need an entirely custom passenger side axle setup to go 28 spline. we'll see how things go.

Hey Stephen, welcome, and thank you for the interest in building these for our cars.

Quaife offers lifetime warranties. You said that you would be using materials stronger then what is put in quaifes. On very rare occasions, some people have busted them and had them replaced. On the off chance these break, would you be able to offer any type of replacement or fixing? I know it would be kinda hard to replace it since these would be a very limited batch, but would you have any on the shelf for replacement if worst came to worst?

                Just a thought

Regarding Lifetime Warranty, I would be wary of companies who offer this (there usually is a catch).

In Europe, Quaife themselves offer this warranty, but it is not transferable i.e sell your car or LSD and the warranty is no longer valid. There is not as much load put through the LSD as the rest of the transmission, so chances are, something else will break before the LSD does. This is why Quaife can offer the warranty as 9 out of 10 people will more likely sell or scrap their car before the unit would give up.

For North America, there was no lifetime warranty offered by Quaife. This warranty was offered by Autotech, the US Distributor at the time. However, now that they are no longer distributor for Quaife (and the new distributor does not offer this same warranty AFAIK, and certainly won't provide warranty for a part they did not sell you), they are not obliged to keep up their end of the bargain if they don't have stock left of the part concerned (i.e they don't have anything to take apart to use as spares). This has been witnessed already on several occasions with very disgruntled customers.

Lifetime Warranty - You know the saying, To good to be true

Although these will be a "custom run" of sorts, we will have some here to be used as "spare parts" if the need arises. Unless you are putting down the 1000whp that we put down in our Drag Cars, I don't see this happening very often

                    Stephan,

custom run yes....if you could or would support them as orderable stock. Many Many people would be interested in future purchases. a 28spline helical LSD is transferrable in many mazda's fords & kia's

Let us know exactly what it will take for you to design a helical LSD for our cars.
I.E. how much interest, what type of payscale, & what deposit if any is needed previous to production. With this type of information i know we can begin & continue to bring you business. not only will this group buy succeed. your company is likely to look @ another group buy for the H series Mazda transmission (nearly identical but some small changes in the diff-mainly a larger unit)

I personally reviewed your website & find it appealing that you can create custom gears/gearsets- many members here & elsewhere would also be interested in a straight cut 3-4 gear package. as a heads up.

Im asking your company to work with ClubProtege & allow us to bring you business from perspective of the mazda world starting with helical LSD's & working towards gears/gearsets

                    Ryan

subject change.... how exactly do claim to have a stronger material then whats used in quaife products???
Does the steel you use have a rockwell hardness rating better scaled then that of quaife?
I cannot claim to know much about the metals used in a quaife thus my asking.

I would be interested in a straight 2nd and 3rd gear set for the 1st gen G-series and can provide a whole transmission for R&D

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

lets try & keep gear posts separate to a whole new thread & rather lets stick to the helical LSD's & see how progress goes with that.

The material that we use for our LSD is the same forged high-nickel chromoly steel that we use in our range of Final Drives, and goes through similar treatment processes. The Quaife also uses a similar high grade steel, but is not forged. The material/process that we use is overkill, but due to economics, it's cheaper for us to use this due to the large amount of steel we import from Australia for the final drives.

Regarding pricing, this should be in line with our current range of LSD's (i.e ~$650). We would need around 10-20 confirmed buyers with min. 50% deposit to secure the unit.

If we can get the confirmed buyers, all we'll need is a sample diff for us to use for measurements and we can have a prototype made up for testing (will need to organize who will do the testing). Timescale, ~1 month or so for the prototype then another month or so after testing is complete

Thank you for clairifing the metallurgy aspect.

10-20 is a pretty broad range. but a minimum of 10 confirmed buyers?
& ~$3500 down payment? does this need to be in a lump sum?? or can each individual make payments to you?

I would like to send an H differential to you along with a G differential as they are nearly identical & could be mildly altered to become one or another.
let me know what you would think of that
