Jay, You might be a good person to ask this of.. Have you ever had to replace the bushings in your shift cables? Do you know of a place that sells replacements/upgrades? I know for Neons there are poly bushings you can get, and there might be for Saturns also, but I've never had a cable-operated tranny before, so am starting to wade into unknown waters.

Nope, but I have taken 'em out and inspected them before and there really aren't any gotchas involved that I can remember. If your are in good shape I don't think there's all that much reason to try an upgrade.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

One of them is passable, but the other one is kinda toast. The center part chunked out as soon as I took off the clip holding it to the transmission arm. The metal tube is there, with a chunk of rubber on it, but there's a rather large voide where more rubber should be. sort of explains the sloppy shifter feeling. I haven't even checked the ones inside the car, but I think they're probably just fine, given the spectacular shape of the car.

        UPDATE!!

The car's been to a couple of events, but none of them during full dark. With the crappy plastic lenses that come on US cars, I needed to remedy the situation, since we had some ice-rally-autocrossing to do on Lake Winnebago.

Here are the pics of the lightbar I built so I could see at night on the lake: Link to my Gallery

pic of the final product the next afternoon (yesterday), click for full size (4416x3312).

It worked AWESOME!! Just some cheap Pilot lights from autozone. Although, I do need to upgrade the fuse holders, one of them melted.

I peered out from the castle window and looked over the splendor of ROTM county. Yes, twas' a much simpler time back then. Peasants would go about their postings, and I, the mod, would rule over them with an iron fist.

i've been tempted on many an occasion to add some rally lights to the 323..... 4 just isn't bright enough to make people swerve yet

lol! yeah, I know.. it was busted when I got the car. After next weekend, I'll have two officially sanctioned events under its belt, and therefore be able to register it with Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development. Then that gets me a discount on parts, including windshield.

But, I just checked it, and safelite (auto glass specialists) will install a new one for 215 plus tax, which is actually cheaper. Maybe I'll schedule it for a week or two, on a monday, so the guy can do it inside the loading bay at work when nobody's using it.

Nice light bar. Reminds me of how I mounted mine, although mine mount to the bottom of the rad support vs the bumper.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

                  Sarge,

I just replaced my clutch. I had same problem with leaky pan. New seals for a 323 fixed that. I didn't put any sillycone on the rubber this time and I used a little super glue to hold it in place on the engine while I raised the pan into place. I feel like that RTV kills the rubber and doesn't stick very well to it either!

The leaky pan is what made my old clutch quit working.

I machined my own shifter bushings from Delrin a few months back. It was a MAJOR improvement. One piece of solid plastic with a slight press on fit.

I removed the gearbox without a cherry picker. And I tried to put it back in without one. I ended up getting smart after getting SPANKED. It forced me to borrow a cherry picker and finish up how you did it.

What do you folks up north do to get your car to turn over when it's so far below zero?

^get a good battery that's all. Also keeping your car in a insulated garage helps blocking the cold by not being exposed to the wind.

good battery, pre crank before you let the engine fire to help move some oil around, you must have a good coolant mixture. simple things

did you ever happen to find a set of bushings for the awd shift cables, do the bf ones happen to be the same size?
