    Kia trans swap

So my trans started to go out in my protege. thinkin the synchronizers went on 'er. well anyways...looked around the JY's and all the manual trannies were bein sold for around 300+. read on here bout the Kia trans swap and god dam! found a manual trans out of a 97 kia sephia for under 200... yeah picked 'er up for 115! with 87k on it. what a steal! got the axles and jackshaft for 90...a lil high but w/e. finally got it in this weekend and holy crap!! it shift sooo much smoother than my old one did!! lovin it so far.

trans came with the upper bracket that bolts to the trans so i got lucky there. found out that is the ONLY mount you need from the kia trans...ya really dont need it from what i can tell...could be wrong tho...

only parts (from what i can tell) that need to be kia are the trans [DUH] and the axles and jackshaft. other than those parts...i used the mazda slave cylinder as the bleeder on the kia was all goobered up.

got some pics of the new trans and all that good stuff.

if anyone is interested in this swap and hasn't read any of the other post you need to pay attention to the casting numbers on the housing. K-2 and K24T must be on there...or else...no point in getting it.

got the new trans cleaned up w/ some engine bright. new output/axle seals.

when pulling the drivers side axle out..kinda f-ed up the snap/retaining ring. broke off the lower speedo cable at the trans... ha! so corroded! but oh well.

had to splice in the neutral saftey switch and that other sensor on the backside of the trans. worked out pretty good.

swapped out the boot for the throw out fork.

all in all..it was pretty dam easy.

thats a pretty good price. I couldn't find a kia box for quite sometime, so ended up getting a pro g-series. Lets see when I get it in.

haha i already got er installed!! did taht last weekend. runs awesome. shifts like a brand new car! lovin it!

only problem i didnt list was that one of the starter bolt threads on the kia housing was all f-ed up. looked liek someone put a heli-coil in there and it just didnt work. oh well..theres two other bolts holding it in. haha.

Cool! Yeah I wouldn't worry about it so much about two bolts holding the starter.
