The Old New Year, is an old slavic tradition celebrated by most Eastern European countries. Its a farewell to the old year, and welcome to the new one. So, there, Kris and everyone else, do not feel left out.

First of all the tradition Turbonium is talking about is celebrating on 13 of January. That use to be New Year untill 20 century. Russia and some other countries in that area use to have different calendar which had 13 days difference. Christian Ortodox chirch (Russia, Georgia, Ukrain, Greece and some other countries) still using that old calendar that's why all holidays like Christmas, Easter and other are 13 days later. That's why in Russia we celebrate Christmas on 7.
Actually I'm from Belarus, which was a part of Russia for a long time and not many people heard about it. We have 2 days off, one on 25 like here and one on 7 because population is half Ortodox and half Catholic. I loved to have 1 extra day off
