That's looking great! How did you got the arms apart from the hub? I'm stuck in that process.

Actually the rear end and front is out of the 1990 Protege GT. Its the same as the 323 hatchback , just has rear discs and the front disc are bigger .

The sway bar is stock on the Protege GT rear end ... its slight different than what I currently have on the 323 hatchback , but both of them are stock item .

So , no its not out of an Escort .... but it might be the same .. you will have to research that .

As for the bushings ... I suggest you read thru this tread http://www.wihandyman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23915
front to back so you can see what I have been dealing with on the Super Pro bushings ... its a bit of a Saga.

I will be glad to share with you my problems and solutions ... Cheers !!!

Well you must be referring to the stubborn SOB of a bolt that runs thru the two arms and spindle. I had one also frozen on ....

Well its actually the steel sleeves that are the problem. They are probably rusted onto the bolt like mine were. I tried the heat method using a torch and pounding away at it .. but no luck !

I ended up taking it to a machine shop where they used a torch and a heavy duty press to break it all loose.

No matter what .. you can get it apart but will need to buy a new bolt and nut for the spindle . You can still buy them new from Mazda . I had to get new ones for mine .

Hope that helps ya ... Cheers

Some of the Brake parts all painted up ready for assembly .

              great work on the brake.
but the only thing i would diff. its the rotor, i would of painted them black and removed the protector on the back brake.

Ground Control Coil Over Kit Modified

I have been able to work on the car a bit more and slowly getting to the stage were I can do the swap.

But ever time it seems I get " bolt on "parts something needs to be modified.

The Ground Control sleeves that were sent in the kit are to fit the Tokico Struts and were " modified " by the manufacture and they were so badly done . Take a look

So we took a look at what we could do to improve on the kit . We came up with a new adaptor to fill in the perch around the strut . Machined them up and had to do a bit if custom filling to get each of them to fit like a glove. They turned out great .

So now at least the adjustable sleeve sits true to the strut and has a 100% contact , unlike how they where sent to me originally .

I also got all the brake components painted and assembled ... its going to be a shame to drive it and get all this new shiny clean paint dirty. Its almost ready . A few more small strut parts to paint up and it swap time .

Nice, I've been looking for some photos of somebody switching to a GC coilover setup. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, and I'm actually flying down to VAN tomorrow morning and leaving Monday evening, we should meet up! I plan on using the stock strut body but going with Koni inserts with GC sleves and Eibach springs. I have no desire to buy Ksport coilovers for my GTR, I've heard a few horror stories.

Without having to read the entire saga, are there any bushings left that I can order? Mine are still usuable, but it wouldn't hurt to do a refresh. Hopefully the regular 323 and the GTR share the same bushings, I don't want to have to return them if they don't fit >.<

Trial fit of wheels and tires

Went to try the wheels on the newly built rear end and .... luckly the wheels and tire combo just fits have like 1/2" space between the strut body and tire.

Wish I had more ... maybe I will put in wheel spacers later to push the wheels out farther to the fender lip . Can't afford wider wheels at the moment anyways ... so spacers might do the trick .

1 more week and its all going into the car .... getting excited now !!!

Oh and I finally found out where these MX-3 wheels came off of ... They are off Mazda's 25th anniversary MX-3 . http://www.mx-3.com/se/

So I guess I will be hanging on to them now, seeing that there was a low number of them produced

Great work. You have plenty of strut to wheel clearance. I have around a credit card's width and I don't rub.
