And so it begins....323BG hatch ----> V6 powa with a few extra surprises

Been planning version2.0 of this transformation for the past 6 months pretty intensely, acquiring parts and researching the avenues for improving on my first iteration.

The first step to really getting the project live though was acquiring a car for the transformation.

It's a '90 1.6 auto - but it won't stay that way for long. I have the next 3 weeks to finish out my 19 units of semester work, then I'll be touching the cars.

The basic idea is to have a really good looking hatch with power to match.

The donor car for the underpinnings is a '92 MX-3 GS that I will miss driving, but only briefly until this beast will be on its own legs.

The 323 will be stripped down to the bare shell and then I'll build it back up the way I want it to feel, look & perform.

Pimping the deep dish with polished lip bling:

    The motivation (2.5L KLDE):

Do you know how freaking hard it is to find one with a straight body for a decent price? It's like you can get one for $500 that's beat to ****, or you find the delusional owners that kept theirs in ok shape and want $3,000 for it.

I've had my eyes peeled on Craigslist and other places online for the past 5 months straight - we're talking at least once daily state-wide scans...not much fun

This one being a Cali car, 0 rust to boot!

I got this one for $550, and it shifts hard in 2nd when it's cold, but once warmed up it's fine. Will do fine to hold up a week or two so I can smog it. It made the 140 mile trip home with no drama.

This is my BP. There are many like it but this one is mine. My BP is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my BP is useless. Without my BP I am useless. I must drive my BP true. I must drive straighter than my enemy, who is trying to beat me. I must beat him before he beats me.

i know it's crazy. they cost twice as much as a comparable escort gt! and after that you still have to upgrade EVERYTHING! having a 323 would be cool but finding one listed for a decent price is impossible.

Today I had some time to hit up the dings. About 25-30 of them around the car, mostly on the doors. I hate those little bastards, they take so much time. Only one of them will need metal work though (driver side 1/4 panel, just behind the door).

It passed smog yesterday so I'm good for a couple of years if need be, though I'll get it carb-certified when the swap is done, like I did with the red one.

Park-bench bumpers will be gone soon as well. Would like to put a sunroof in it though, that depends if I can find a full assembly at a reasonable cost.

Ordered a brand new OEM full V6 wiring harness for it (ebay yay), so I won't have to deal with crusty oily broken crap. Will do a very mild wiretuck and engine bay cleanup as well - I like my cars nice underneath.
