Yes, I know all this. I might not have gone to school to become a machinist (sounds like you have?), but I have had plenty of stuff machined that had both press fits and slip fits. I think of a press fit as requiring a hydraulic press to assemble, which is definately not required here.

But, you are right, I was mainly talking about the loose tolerances of Mazda's machining. Might also have been due to the races spinning and eating away at the soft aluminum.

What are the pics that you attached? They are too small and I can't make out the writing.

I also failed to mention that my setup for the secondary inner bearing was unique anyways as I used a race that had an outer lip and also welded in a support plate in the bellhousing right behind it. This caused the bellhousing to warp a little and I had to get it remachined to fit the race and lip. That opened up the clearances by a few thou.

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

smoke i know i'm a month late, but the nuts for the kia trans are different from the EGT. the primary shaft one is the same but the secondary shaft one is different.

You play guitar Jon?! We should be friends! Wait...

But seriously, we should have a beer sometime.

Anyway, regarding the discussion that covered most of this thread: you guys should have contacted me. xbelfast, you sound like you know what you're talking about and I'm only going to add to what you have said already.

Interference/slip fit is based on tolerance. Generally with bearings, tolerance is +/- .0005 inches. So for the bore (transmission case) the hole would be listed as .9990 +/-.0005 and the bearing race would be listed as 1.0000 +/-.0005. Nominally you have .0010 interference (which isn't a whole lot on an aluminum part) and worst case scenario you have zero. So your interference is .000-.002 and except for maybe the 1 in a million chance, you will have an interference fit so it's really a non issue.

As far as Loctite goes, 609 is the type you should be using.

If your bearings are really bad and you're looking for something a little more serious, Loctite 680. You can also use their primer Loctite 7471 Grade T that will improve the performance of the adhesive. Regardless, make sure that the surfaces you apply it to are VERY clean. Use a high flash point cleaner (like brake or carb cleaner) and wipe the surfaces down with a clean cloth for best performance.

Keep in mind that Loctite 609 and 680 are made for gaps (read clearance or slip fit) of .002"-.008" and a sheet of paper is approximately .004". So if in the unlikely event you can get 2 sheets of paper in between the outer bearing race and the transmission, you'll have a problem. Odds are, even if you're worried, you'll only need 609. Plus, that little bottle was like $15.

Oh, one more thing: The ring gear is so hard, don't worry about a drill bit hitting the inside of the holes while you're drilling out the rivets. The gear is harder than most drill bits that you'll buy. (Found this out the hard way.)

I am guessing from what i've read that the OEM speedo gear installs on the Mfactory G series LSD no problem? Or is there custom work to be done?

                                next question

are there different speedo gears for the different differential ratios or do all ratios use the same speedo gears. In other words... what changes in the speedo gearing between different final ratio trannies.

                                Thanks.
