I replaced the timing belt and water pump in a 1995 Mazda MX-3 with a 1.6L DOHC the other day and there was a little black rubber piece that I forgot to put back in. The car isn't leaking so I don't think the part is probably real important.
So what is it and what does it do? My best guess is that it helps keep foreign materials out of the timing case.
What is the part marked in red?
