10/24/2009 - Southeast Ohio Performance Run

I'm almost positive that Poondogg's and I are planning to go to this event. Just posting this up...

This will be a full day of driving some of the most gorgeous (fall will be in full bloom), technical, and (best of all) FUN roads in the Ohio area. As most of these roads will be 45mph/55mph zones, with little to no 5-0 presence, we will be able to push our cars to their limits and really see what you are capable of.

**THIS WILL BE A PERFORMANCE DRIVING RUN!!**

    Saturday, October 24, 2009

    The Plan:

7:00-7:30am: Meet at the Bolivar McDonalds (Interstate 77 - Exit 93)
7:30am: Depart Bolivar and head south on I-77
    9:15am: Arrive in Bathesda, Ohio
9:30am: Depart Bathesda, Ohio and head south on Ohio Route 26
11:30am: Arrive in Marietta, Ohio - LUNCH AT MARIETTA BREWING COMPANY
1:00pm: Depart Marietta, Ohio and head north on I-77
1:30pm: Arrive in Caldwell, Ohio and head west on Ohio Route 78
3:00pm: Arrive in The Plains, Ohio and head East on Route 33 towards Athens
3:15pm: Arrive in Athens, Ohio for some pictures in the area
4:00pm: Enjoy some food, drinks, and the relaxed atmosphere of Athens on a Saturday.
6:00pm: Depart Athens and head back on your own terms
    ~9:00pm: Return to Akron/Canton area.

    The Route:

    Details:
    • Mileage from Bolivar to Athens: 246 Miles
    • Cost of Lunch/Person: ~$10-20 (restaurant is not very expensive)
    • Cost of Dinner/Person: ~$10-20 (restaurant is not very expensive)
    • Route 78 is well-known for its extreme curves and views, and is sometimes locally referred to as the "Rim of the World."
    • Car and Driver has called it one of the most scenic highways nationwide and uses these roads for road tests.

This is a crazy chicane and an example of not just the hills and valleys, but the extreme curves in this area:

This is a short documentary made last year on Ohio Routes 78 and 26. I know, I know, it's terrible.
