So.... I finally got over bad surgery as of the first part of July. I am slowly starting to feel somewhat human again, although a less fit version of myself. However, I hope to remedy that as I ramp up some training. Enough about me. I have had a lot of time to think about my car situation.....

First, I have too many cars.

Second, I'm thinking about buying another. My wife will hang my *ss but hey.... I can't stop thinking about it. I found another possible project car. An '89 hatchback in okay condition. Paint sucks but the body's basically straight and it only has 123,000 miles on it. So, my dream lately is to buy it, organize a work party and swap as many good parts from my GT onto this hatchback. As a result, I can either take the SOHC out of the hatch and throw it in the GT body or keep it as another project that I am thinking about for later down the road. Regardless.... If I were to actually follow through on this idea, I would need to get rid of the GT frame/body.

So.... is there anybody out there that might be interested in the GT body? Cheap? <aybe you have an extra B6T motor laying around that needs a home.... who knows. Just thinking out loud.

Now, second option. I might be talked into just selling the GT as is with some spare parts (this sounds easier, right?) because my brother is giving me his 626. It's in really good shape. It would make a really nice riding DD. Granted, it'll never ever be close to the quickness of my GT, but if I sell the GT outright, that's another project off of my plate and my wife would be happier.

Okay, without to much razzing.... give the old man some thoughts. Maybe somebody might be interested in my GT? Cheap?

It breaks my heart to do this, but.....

I have decided to start the process of letting go of my 323GT.

I have too many vehicles, my wife just retired, we are trying to downsize and I have too many things on my "to do list" to spend time messin' with what has been the most fun car I've ever owned. So, I will start looking into how I'm supposed to list it on this website, but I wanted to thank all of the people who have taken a look at my thread and followed my progress on working on my GT. Excuse the pun, but "it's been a great ride". I promise that I won't leave the forum. I'll lurk around. I still have other Mazda's as I plan to remain loyal to the brand. They just won't be as fast nor corner as well. Then again, it's probably about time I work on my 626LX as my comfortable old man car instead of a monster track car.

While I hope my fellow 323 forum members don't turn this into a eulogy thread, I would enjoy a few comments on what you liked about what I did to the car through the years. Thanks again. See you down the road.

Yep, I know exactly how you feel about this. I almost sold my GTX a while back. I got all panicky.

Larry, I think about the same thing...same situation on the downsizing thing here from the other half. I am getting real close and I do not think I will have an issue when it comes down to it, but, I will need to do it twice or one big package. The new Mustang is really yanking on me..hard. The house is too big, paid off, and the kids are well off on their own and Tami is cruising Zillow.

So.... I wonder how my old 323GT is doing? I miss it. I dream of starting a new project, but it's not in the cards right now. Sad...

For anyone wondering about Larry's car. I owned it for a while before this happened. Hopefully someone will snag this from me and put it's parts to use.

Soooooo...... I've been collecting parts. Lots of parts. Mike and I reached a deal and I ended up with the remains of my original GT with plenty of good parts that I will eventually swap onto the new hatchback. I have been thinking about how to attack (approach) this. I am hoping for two things here over the next couple of months by tapping into all the expertise on the forum. I wish to make a list of steps to follow so that not only do I reduce the chances of missing a step, but I don't want to make more work for myself. For example, the hatchback does not have power steering (the GT donor does). I have all the parts (I think) to install A/C on the hatch. Yeah, yeah... I know some of you want to argue this, but I want A/C. Regardless..... I am thinking that the best time to swap the big power steering pieces onto the hatch is after both motors are pulled so that I have the easiest access to all the parts. After all, why make more work for myself.

With that in mind, I wish to know (little by little) if this were your project, what basic order of steps would you take in order to get this done in an organized fashion? I'm already thinking that I want to keep the trannies bolted to the engines and drop the whole thing on both cars and simply, eventually switch them.

When should I swap the suspensions? Before the engines? After? Sort of at the same time? What about brakes? Wiring harness?

Put the rack in while the motor is out as well as the shifter from the GT as it is different than the one in the hatch. Yes motor and tranny together but pull it up from the bottom is how I have always done it. You don't have to take off the hood. Swap the front suspension in after the motor is in which will give you a bit more room. Also swap the harness while the motor is out as well. Hopefully you take out the radiator before you start all of the swapping as well.
