    Is it 4WD?

I've noticed a light blue 90-91 Protege sitting in the same spot with no plates for a couple of years now. It just dawned on me the other day that this is also the same years that 4WD Pro's were available in the US. My question is, without walking up into these people's driveway and looking under their car, how can I tell if it's 4WD?

It's for sure a 90-91, SOHC (single tip muffler, manual mirrors, unpainted handles), has rear mudflaps, and has no badges that say LX/DX/SE (both fenders are bare). If it's a 4WD, I'm stopping by there tomorrow and offering them some money to get it out of their way.

Yes, but DX's had a DX badge, LX's had LX badges, etc. This car has no badging on the fenders at all.

If I were you, I'd probably just squat down and look under the car. It's quick, it's easy, and it'll get you the answer you need.

Just go look. Its not like you're bashing the window out and stealing something. Just dont do a burnout through the yard and you should be ok....
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Has rear disk brakes if that helps...but then that could still be an LX...just go ask! Tell them how much you want to make love to every clean BG you see...they'll understand.

x2 ^^ no burnouts on front lawn = bad impression

I just get red X's. It's probably just my computer here at work though.

I'm going to stop by on my way home tonight and look under it if it looks like no one's there. I might leave a note in the mailbox.

So what should I offer them for the car? It hasn't moved (that I've seen) in over a year and a half, and has no plates on it. The paint isn't in the greatest shape, but there aren't any LARGE dents that I've noticed. I was thinking maybe $300? Should I start higher than that?

IIRC 4WD models also have a control for the center differential, do they not? Look for that if you can't see under the car.

looking for rear disc brakes + black plastic mirrors would be a good indicator. the 4wd was the only USDM car that got that combo.

I couldn't see the rear brakes through the steelies from the road. I'm going to stop and look at it on my way home today. If they come out while I'm looking at it I'll say something about buying it.

You should put in an offer even if it is DX. You can't go wrong with a BG!

I wouldn't offer any more if it was a 4X4. Face it; it is a nearly 20 year old Japanese 4-door and the only people who care that they even exist are here.
