Some of my projects, with photos!!

so, what projects have you guys done? show us some pictures, I like to see how people build things!!

    Here's a couple of mine.

    BG lower engine/trans mounts:
    3/16" flat stock...
The first-ever set I made, for my '91 EGT (no longer mine

And the second set I made, for my BPT Wagon. I actually painted these:

The welding of the MSP diff in my wagon. Didn't necessarily NEED to do it, but I did it anyway:

Lightbar mounts for an Escort bumper (won't work for a protge/323 bumper, the escort one has a big channel for it to bolt to

    a non-mazda project

I built this in september '09 for my AE86, I was sick of the under-axle yucky fart cannon that was on it when I bought the car.

It's two-inch, 16ga aluminized, with mandrel bent sections, welded together.

Here's a shot of the whole thing put together. At this point, I hadn't got any hangers on it, nor painted. I plan on painting it either silver or black, with high-temp paint. Probably black, just so the extra shine from the muffler doesn't draw anymore attention.

I cut the old flange off of the downpipe, and put my own on. I got the flanges cheap, like $2.50 for a pair, with gaskets and bolts. The downpipe only measures 1.75inches, which made welding the two-inch flange on it a bit funky. It's my least favorite bit of the whole system, but I don't mind for now, as I'll get a header eventually.

I mounted the cat with the heat shield towards the car, rather than the ground, as there's not an original heat shield underneath the car. Plus I like starting grass on fire. There's a 30° bend coming out of it, with another 30° bend to turn it through the driveshaft heat-shield area.

I'd originally purchased a 26" core cherry bomb glasspack for a resonator, but I think it would've hung too low in the center of the car. So I opted for a shorter one. Eighteen inches, I believe. I had originally had just a straight pipe through here, with the Cherry Bomb turbo muffler on the back. Sounded fine at idle, but really really crappy/ricey/ghey under power. Plus there was a rather pronounced drone inside.

The over-axle section. This took a bit of doing. I used a 60° bend after the flange, then took a U-bend and cut it at approximately 107°, then used a coupler to merge it with the other part of the U-bend. Another 60° bend on the end, and Bob's your uncle. (if you're related to him, at least.)

Another angle of the back part. The muffler's just a cherry bomb turbo, 13" body, 3.75x8.75 oval.

Side view of the whole shebang.

Let me tell you, I REALLY REALLY wish I had a hoist/lift to work with. a Couple 6x6's and some home-built ramps is what I've got to work with. Lots of time wasted just getting down, crawling under, crawling back out, etc...

    Another angle of the workspace...

Here's the first hanger I put on. Maybe a bit overkill, but oh well..

And here it is hanging on the car...

Here's part of the routing by the driveshaft/ heatshield area.

    Over the axle....

And to the back. I haven't hooked up the hanger in the back here yet, so it's hanging a bit lower than when finished.

Kind of hard to see with this lighting, but there's plenty of space all around the exhaust, not even close to rubbing anywhere.

The thing is almost TOO quiet now, actually, and I can hear all these other creaks and groans and squeaks and shimmies now, lol!

I've not painted it yet, so there's yet one more un/re-install to do, and I'll get some video/audio clips of it.

There's a few more pics here and there, but I posted most of them.
ALL of my photos can be viewed full-size, at my gallery: Sarge's Gallery (page six)
