I Got A Protege LX Today!

its a 92 mazda protege lx power everything.

i picked it up for next to nothing, i cant believe it.

in the ad he said it had ran when parked 2 years ago but doesnt run anymore he noticed its not getting any fuel and the battery was trash.

so before i headed out on the hour long drive i went to the junkyard and grabbed a fuel pump, packed some tools, bought a brand new battery from walmart and i was on my way.

when i got there i started working on it hoping that i would get it started and be able to get it home lol.. cause i didnt have a trailer or anything. i filled a gas can and put fresh gas in it put the battery in and cranked it over. it cranked over ok but it didnt fire. so i replaced the fuel pump. VROOOOM!! it was alive!

it needs a little work here and there but all in all it was worth every penny!

needs a passenger outer tie rod end, power sunroof is jammed? and half the gas is old and varnished so i have to either use it all carefully or drain it cause the engine definatly doesn't like it at all lol.. also the trunk lid is crunched in but there is one at the junkyard now i believe.. needs a good brake bleed too.

other than that everything works great im excited.

ill post pics when i get a chance..

fyi when I drained the fuel out of my tank I was told there is a drain plug? I never looked as that sounded really messy, I ended up just pulling the feed hose off the pump and fitting my own hose that I ran to a gas can... I then jumped the gnd and f/p terminal in the diagnostic port and let the fuel pump pump all the gas out... worked pretty good for me.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Drain plugs are in factory tanks only, however. Aftermarket tanks don't have them, for whatever reason.

Also, the way the baffles are in the tank, not all the gas will drain from the plug.

well as long as i drain most of it and fill it with fresh gas it will be good..

im deciding if i should keep it and make it my new daily or sell it and make some cash..

the sun roof works it was just stuck.. could use some grease along with all the other windows..

is it pretty common that the windows go up REALLY SLOW? how hard is it to fix this? whats involved?

when i was on the way home i tested everything, ac works, cruise control works, the car is really in great shape. i pressure washed the engine bay today and vacuumed out the car. its really coming along nicely..

pics soon.. i dont have a camera but ill get one

Not an expert on Mazda power windows, but generally going up real slow, means time for new window motors. Wrecking yards usually keep the motors and window regulators togeather and sell them for a reasonable price. Replacing them is usually time consuming, but easy. I would maybe tear apart the door since it has been sitting, The mechanism could just need a cleaning and some lube.

I would keep it. I have everything from soup to nuts as far as cars go (I have had north of 50 different cars). The Protege in my opinion is a great car. My daily driver 323 has 480000KM on it. (just replaced the engine to pass the E-test). I have had plenty of $500 cars, but not one that I would hop in with my family and drive across country. Hell I thrust the 323 more then my other (will remain nameless) $25000+ shiz box LOL. The only thing a 323/protege needs is about 120 more horse power......I pretty much got that figured out.
Dominic Toretto rocks a MaZda and his cell phone number starts in "(323)"

^^ I hardly ever see LX's and rarely see DX's, but today a bluish gray LX almost pulled out in front of me, I would have been pissed that they ruined my custom bumper, and pissed that I ruined an LX!
