    Mazda 323 GTX gearbox

    Hi guys
I got a gearbox which they told me that is from the GTR. is there any way to find out if it is? I ve heard that the GTR gearbox doesnt have the diff lock switch (the one that I got doesnt have it) but the GTX and the n/a 323 has that switch.
    Thanks

As far as the BG goes... the GTX and GTR trans is 100% identical externally.

The only way to tell the difference (if it didn’t come to you in a low mileage GTR front clip) is to take it apart and inspect 1st and 2nd gears. They will be a different color in a GTR trans because they are shot-peened. Overall, that’s really the ONLY difference.

The BG GTX and GTR are as Rieldeal described, the BF gtx gearbox ('86-'88) is similar but weaker with an open/lockable centerdiff instead of a viscous unit. Gears are narrower too. What year car did it come from?

The GTR gerabox has a different front mount and different clutch slave cyl.

Yes it does. One of them is shorter than the other but I dunno which is which. I *think* the GTR mount is shorter. Corksport sold me a GTR box by mistake and I couldn't figure out why the hell my front trans mount wouldn't line up...I don't recall a difference tween clutch cyls though.
