    CAR WONT START help please?

Went to start my car this morning and no go. It cranks but won't fire it's about 5 degrees outside and hasn't been started since thursday the 9th. we had ALOT of snow over the weekend and freezing rain and all that. and well the car won't start i'm just assuming this is because of the bitter cold??

Really need to get it up and running so if anybody could help that'd be great.

the battery is good so that isn't the problem and it has spark and is getting fuel.

the radiator is a bit slushy and i did not have gas anti freeze in the car it has over a half tank of gas in it though. so i'm waiting til its like 20-30 degrees to try again or anyone else have any idea what to do

get some antifreeze in there... and put some methylhydrate in your gas tank ... if it has one plug in your block heater .. it helps..

The car does have antifreeze in it. it's full but the antifreeze inside is slushy don't have a black heater to my knowledge don't think the BP had one? but could be wrong. and i'll try and find some of that stuff and get it in the gas..

sounds like a good possibility of frozen fuel lines.

if the gas tank was close to the empty side when it was parked, then the cold snap hit, you could have water mixed with the gas. I had that problem with my Mustang a few years back. we just pulled it into my friend's garage, and then shone a carbon-arc spotlight on it (we were theater techs at the time, and he had one in his garage. We were putting a 1-foot circle on the water tower from about a mile and a half away, lol!).

Basically, some Heet/methylhydrate in the gas will help, but there's a good chance that you'll need to get the lines warmed up somehow. Do you have a garage to put it in? If not, get it in the sun during the day as much as possible, but out of the wind. how about a torpedo heater, that might do the best.

Good luck man, I've been there and it sucks!

still no luck it's gonna be up forsale if it isn't up and working by tomorrow i'm done trying to dick around with it. I've pulled all the plugs and got the hEEt in it and checked over pretty much everything. charged my battery. and still same ****. so starter perhaps? who knows have a guy coming over though tomorrow and if he can't solve the issue it's going on CL.

            Is it turning over?
You need ignition, fuel and compression. You've gotta be missing one of those
You can see if your getting ignition by pulling a plug and seeing it it sparks. if you've got ignition on all the cylinders then that narrows it down to fuel or compression, Now this motor ran fine last it was running right? if it did then 95% chance it isn't compression. so It has to be a fuel issue. I would have someone turn it over and spray some starting fluid into the intake and see if it hits on a few cylinders. If it does then you've got a fuel problem. I would start by doing that stuff and seeing where that gets you.

I have a 93 protege and I have a simuliar problem.do the easy things first. pull your spark plug and check for spark. if not check rotor if none again pull coil wire and put a screw driver in it to check for spark if none you may need a coil. if it steel doesn;t start put back old coil( it cost about 100.00)this is where i'm at. I'm told that it can be a distributor or spark module.

I was told that either the module sensor or distributor were the problem, Instead of buyiny each one seperate i bought the whole distributor which has the sensor, module, rotor and cap for 400.00. this was the problem and it's running like a champ again, hope this helpssomeone else.

So, you only get one rotation of the motor, then it stops rotating? And with no ignition/firing of any sort? Is it a quick turn-over, or is it slow? might be the starter motor or solenoid.

Another thing that could stop the motor from turning over is liquid in the cylinders. take the spark plugs out and see if you can turn over then. If there's no problem, then figure out what kind of liquid's in there. oil/coolant/fuel.

oil/coolant would lead to a head gasket. fuel would lead to something wroing with the fuel pump/injector circuit, maybe a wire grounding out somewhere, causing them to keep pumping. That's sort of the least likely scenario, in my opinion though.

Where are you located in WI?
