My 2002 KLZE Protege 5, kl to kj swap thread

Figured i'd start a worklog for my new Protege 5, so far i haven't done anything accept change the wheels

My plans for it is to fix all the little "quirks" it has here and there and to have it as a daily driver

My "to-do" list as of right now is

    -get the speedo/tach working
-paint the door jams to match the exterior
-tidy up the wiring under the hood
-change out the springs for the set of lowering springs that came with the car
-fix the rear upper strut mount
-put on a new set of brakes all the way around

My later on plans involve some kind of boost, whether i just pull the KL and drop in a KJ (millenia S) or a mild turbo setup

Anyway here are some pics from the day got it

and a few pics from last night after i changed the wheels and parked it beside my festiva

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Nice P5. I think some yellow is showing through on the front bumper too, or maybe it's just the pic. But anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do with it. I'll be watching

yup your right, some yellow is showing through here and there around the car, i probably won't go crazy on trying to colour match every little spot on the car, just the real noticable areas

Wow, looks really low with those wheels. I never had those wheels and springs on at the same time, is it driveable like that?

Surprisingly yes it drives just fine, I seriously expected some rubbing but the tires haven't touched the fenders yet, sitting still with the wheel turned, the tire is approx 1/4-1/2 inch from the fender lol

Basically i've been learning how the car has been wired by taking things apart seeing what goes where, then putting it back together, i only put it back together so i could meet up with local car guys last night lol

I figure learn whats been done to the car first before i make any real changes to it, my plans are to trim out any un-necessary wires to make things easier to access since the un-used stock harness is just all bunched up above the tranny lol

I do industrial instrumentation, automation, and electrical work for a living. The wiring works, but I'll admit it was done as cheaply and as quickly as possible. As such, yes, it's a bit of a hack job wiring wise.

Edit: I tried to find my original wiring diagrams for you, but my girlfriend admits she probably threw it all out.

Wow, the fest seems to be in much better condition than the P5.

Oh i have no complaints with how it was wired since everything works well lol, i just need to learn for myself what you've done before i make any changes lol my main concern is just trimming down the extra wires to clean things up lol
