Easiest way to change my final drive ratio to 4.39

I've been reading the forums and am considering a change from my 4.11 fdr to 4.39 in my escort gt to get better acceleration. I'm wondering what the simplest/cheapest way of doing this is (recognizing these may not be the same) ? It sounds like I need to look for a Probe V6 or MX-3 v6 Manual trans - the post say the internals are the same - does this mean that I could "simply" swap the internals into my G series trans in my escort ??? Is there a better/cheaper option ?

    Thanks for your help !

Sorry but they won't swap, when I was messing around with swapping internals I found a 1/4" thickness difference in the ring gear between the EGT and Probe GT trans, that differences makes the secondary gear shaft 1/4" longer in the probe trans

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

There is some compatibility though so your not totally wrong

The probe internals swap into the 99ish escort ZX2 transmission and vice versa... I've never messed with the kia tranny though so that could work to get the 4.38 final drive on a BP

The 323gt/capri XR2 internals will swap into the Escort GT trans and vice versa

I have a Kia transmission in the garage if you need anything measured. I'll do my best if I can help.

You could always try shorter tires, too. That'll help acceleration a bit.

Sooo, does a Kia transmission bolt upto a 93 GT BP engine in an escort....
I'm kinda stuck with tire size at the moment.

yes it will, but you will need the KIA axles and Intermediate shaft because the transmission has a larger diameter and higher spline count.

Thanks. Is it both ends of the drive shaft that is different - or just inboard ends - ie do I need to replace the front hubs ?

Just the inboard ends are different (28 vs 26 splines). Hub side is the same.

and the kia trans is alot stronger then the G series tranny usually bolted up to the BP's. alot of extra webbing in the trans casing.

O.K. just to get this straight then..In order to change my final drive ratio from 4.11 to 4.39 I need

                            1. Kia Sepia 95-97 trans and driveshafts and intermediate shaft
                            2. Probe GT or MX-3 trans or at minimum ring and pinon

                            Anything else ?

                            Thanks
