Clunking Noise - Rear Passenger Shock

Look at the pic - the silver washer/nut combo is moving up from the black cap when the car is in motion and when it comes back down, I get the clunking sound. I removed the shock/spring assembly but everything "seems" fine. Is there supposed to be a rubber silencer in there or is the shock bad?

I think it'd be preferable to take it out of the car and tightening it!

ya you can tighten them in the car, there's access holes in the back to even get an impact gun in there lol...

If it's clunking it can be either a bad strut or possibly swaybar link bushings (end or frame mount)

make sure the washer isnt stuck on the slot and moves up and down so the nut can tighten all the way down, i had one of mine do this one day when i did mine in the driveway.... it basically held the nut from going any farther, i pulled it off grabbed the strut with vise grips lightly and tried again....

The nut looks loose, try tightening it first. if that doesn't work. your strut mount is bad.

Ok, I'll check if the washer is stuck too high which makes sense and get back to the forum. Thanks!
