    the focus of club "protege"

are we just club protege with a few 3's? are we content to just cover the mazda BF/BG/BHA/BJ with a smattering of a few BK/BL?

i'm asking because its important in shaping the vision for this website/forums if we want to be a "good old boys" "protege" club, or if we're interested in developing along with mazdas line of commuter compacts

    please vote on the poll!
    19
a "protege" club. no evolution. specialized to older/obsolete frames.

In all actuality the 323 wasn't a protege yet people associate it with one. Anyone who is a true enthusiast would know the protege was a323 before and a 3 after. Hell real enthusiasts would know the 323 was a glc before that. This was never just a protege club, this is an enthusiasts club first

well i get that, lol.. but essentially what im asking is do we stay clubprotege in name and concept? or do we broaden the name and concept to *visibly* include the pre and post "protege" series? perhaps i wasnt being clear.

Amen to that. I would like first and foremost this to remain an "enthusiast" site, not like Mazda247 which is mainly a "what colour rims look prettiest on my 3?" site.

I know appealing to a wider audience is important, just remember the roots.

Another forum I frequent is bimmerforums.com, where you access your chassis' forum from the main page and don't have to see what's going on with the lame chassis. It's a good sense of community between each niche that way.

honestly there are so many other forums for BK's and the newer 2nd gen 3's that I can't see anyone joining here for that. mazdaspeedofurms, m247, mazda3forums,, etc... they all already have a good bit of info on the newer platforms. I think CP needs to stay just that. bf-bj. thats it..IMO

I agree. We need to stay clubprotege.

I don't like mazda247 because it seems that there are just to many things on there. There really isn't any sense of a community on there because there are so many different models. I feel that if we add more stuff for the newer stuff, we'd be the same way. Right now we are a community.

Just as the 323 evolved into the Protege, the 3 is a natural extension of the Protege in terms of size, power output, handling and cost (unlike the 6 or the 2). The newest Protege is now 8-years old and, as time goes on, many current Protege owners may update to a 3. What are we to tell them?: "Goodbye, it's been nice to know you but you're no longer welcome here."

As Turpro states, this is a Mazda enthusiast's club first. The 3s are interesting cars full of evolving technology with many advances over the Protege (all-alloy engines, 6-speed M/Ts, choice of 2 different engine displacements, and a kick-ass factory turbo version, to name just a few. Perhaps most importantly, as in the case of the Protege, according to Consumer Reports magazine which tests every single production car sold in America, the stock 3 is one of the best handling cars available in its class - bar none. I see it as a true enthusiasts car and an ideal platform on which to build. I speak as someone who drives both a 3rd Gen and a 2006 3.

As someone committed to advancing the interests of this Forum, I see it as my business to point out the advantages of the 3 as an encouragement to those currently owning older Mazdas but seeking newer cars, to consider it as an outstanding alternative and our Forum as a desirable place in which to to remain. Why can't we be the best damn Forum for both the Protege, for as long as they last, and the 3? Otherwise, over time I fear CP will slowly fade away and eventually die. And yes, we may eventually have to consider changing our name.

                      Happy Motoring!

ya good call, I wonder how many new members we've had in the past 12 months...and how many are still active today lol that'd be neat to find out...

I do agree with goldstar at the same time...with everyone else lol. Protege's are getting old...hell even I find myself eyeing up newer cars...so to not include the Protege/323s successor into the site, would be like having a GLC forum only because they didn't want to include the latest BG chassis....

i say theres enough forums and help for the newer gen's already, dont get off point of what this forum is. sure evolution is always going to come . but the addition of newer models here, is going to divert some of the older gen crowd that dont feel like getting lost in the new age vehicles. i just feel the older ones will become pushed off this forum eventually.... hell the oldest model we support is the bf, so keeping it bf. bg, bh,bj, and the cars those motors apply to would be better in the long run... if i want to look at newer models ill go to another forum, we dont need to be like the dozen other mazda forums that fell off the net from people trying to be to be involved in more than is needed... i know if this forum starts trying to lure in the newer cars, ill be looking for some where else to take up all my time....

I've stated my opinion. I don't think we should say "youre not welcome here" but TBH, there's plenty of other forums for those cars.. for us to try and pull them in ISN'T going to work. If I drive a protege and upgrade to an MS3, I'm going to primarily post on an MS3 forum (MSF) It's not because I don't like it here or anything, its simply, thats where the knowledge is and theres already a strong following there. Why would I try to start a huge following here when theres strong support elsewhere. I don't want this to be a "Mazda" forum, I want this to be what it is now. BF, BG, BH, and some BJs.. 323's and proteges... thats it. Yes, these cars are aging, but thats what comes with the game. We've just gotta accecpt the fact that our forum isn't going to be hugely growing.
