        Thanks

Well I think i figured out the bogging problem after reading a few other threads on the subject, and the hidden idle A/F ratio screw adjustment did the trick it seems. Screwed it all the way in and backed it out a 1/4 turn at a time. At 3/4 of a turn right now and all seems well.

I do have a MIL popping up while cruising when it bogs down still, so it looks like that adjustment really didnt help much. I plan on pulling codes, and getting a universal 4 wire O2 sensor wired up since there is no telling how old that single wire one is.

Thanks, I cant wait to get the rest of them. I was almost thinking of getting a tach mounted on the other side in place of the stock one.

Well today I pulled the codes and discovered that I had 2 codes for the O2 sensor. I bought a Universal 4 wire Bosch sensor today and decided to wire it in.

Since this car was previously an LX(1.9) it already has a separate circuit and fuse for a heated O2 sensor. Since the wiring harness I am using is from a 91, it only had provision for a single wire sensor.

This wiring how-to really only pertains to a car with my unique combination.

There is already a wire in the LX harness (C202) to provide power to a heated O2 sensor. I removed the wire from the 1.9 harness I still had lying around, added it to the engine harness side of the (C202) connector and ran it to my bulkhead connector I added when I swapped the engine to make running wires like this easy.

I ran the power wire to the sensor, cut the connector off the signal wire and spliced it to the sensor. The remaining 2 wires from the sensor get grounded and your finished. Easy.

I would have snapped a few pics, but I couldn't find my camera at the time.

The good news is there is no more bogging but the power felt low, so I decided to try and tune the U/K VAF. I tried to use the multimeter but was not having much luck, and the VAF did not seem to respond well at 5/6 clicks. So I resorted to the adjust and drive method, and it now feels good and pulls hard at 4K and up, but the VAF is now 10-12 clicks which seems way further off from everyone else, but it seems to run best there.

Well yesterday I finally installed Jim Pierces tubular front control arms, installed new tie rod ends, lowered the car a little more in front, and aligned it all. Was outside in the dark setting my alignment. Still have to get the hardware to install the swaybar drop links as well

1.5 degrees neg camber and 1/32nd toe in in front.

Got my Jim Pierce tubular rear crossmember back from Jrally with the ES bushings he machined to fit MX3 TTL's. That will be installed along with the EGT rear disc conversion and miata brake upgrade

Today I finally going to try and install the BMW variable TPS I got from Jinx.

Problem is that since I am still on the stock ECU and not running megasquirt, I cant just follow the Miata how-to I found online.

Here are the wires and there functions for each type of sensor:

                    MTX 3 wire:
                    R/W--IDLE
                    LG/W--WOT
                    BK/W--Ground

                    ATX 4 wire:
                    R/W--IDLE
                    LG/W--Potentiometer signal
                    BK/W--Ground
                    LG/R--VREF from VAF

                    BMW Variable TPS:
                    1--Potentiometer, VREF
                    2--Potentiometer, Ground
                    3--Potentiometer, Signal
                    4--Switch, IDLE
                    5--Switch, WOT
                    6--Switch, Common

Now the schematics for visual reference:

So basically my wiring plan from looking at both schematics is this:

                    BMW Variable TPS------------------------Mazda/Ford TPS wiring:
                    1--Potentiometer, VREF----------LG/R, VREF from VAF
                    2--Potentiometer, Ground--------BK/W, Ground
                    3--Potentiometer, Signal---------LG/W, Potentiometer Signal
                    4--Switch, IDLE-------------------R/W, IDLE
                    5--Switch, WOT---N/A
                    6--Switch, Common---------------BK/W, Ground

Let me know if you think I am off track on this

I have no idea exactly, but I have a feeling after checking this thing with the meter that its a common ground. So to make it work like a 4 wire TPS, I cant just hook up #4 on BMW sensor to the IDLE wire on the harness for it to work. I will have to actually hook up #6 to ground and #4 to the IDLE wire to complete the circuit.

I have adjusted my wiring in my last post to reflect this.

Well this sensor will not work with the OE ECU at all. Period.

Got it all together and tried it out, wont rev past 2K unless your over 1/2 throttle. Found out the IDLE circuit stays on too long and at part throttle the ECU still thinks its on idle and does a fuel cut or something. Disconnected the IDLE wire and it works great but will sometimes stall after revving it and starts to idle rough. Decided to test the signal part of the TPS just to make sure it was ok, but its backwards. The BMW sensor is 4.5V at idle and 1.2-1V at WOT. The OE ECU is looking for about .5V at idle and 4.5-5V at WOT.

So I now have a hillbilly setup rigged up for the idle switch to make it drivable and will go hunting tomorrow morning at the junkyard for a 4 wire TPS. Cant reinstall the 3 wire since I took it apart and used the connector and pins to adapt the BMW sensor wires to the factory stuff.

Its all fixed now, found a 4 wire at the first JY I went to and a couple other things I needed.

Also I took a real close look at the Kia Sephia BP upper intake mani, and it appears that its designed in a similar way to a GTR mani on the inside the way the furthest cylinder is shrouded compared to the closest one. Also looks like because of it, that all 4 runners are actually 4 different lengths, with number 1 being the longest and 4 being the shortest. The Kia BP has 5 less HP and 3 more lb ft then a EGT engine and the power peaks about 500RPM sooner, so that manifold may have some part to play in this I think.

I would have snagged it to try but the TB setup is completely different and so are the TPS and Idle air control, so I would need the whole setup with pigtails and someone already robbed the sensors off it.
