    Carb'd FE3?

    I was planning on swapping in a FE3 from a KIA into my Ford ZX2 project (http://www.wihandyman.com/forum/show...ild&highlight=). However, I just acquired a '89 Nissan Sentra, and the lure of swapping in a SR20DET is too much for me (this engine is very popular around my area). So with one high HP money-pit in the works, I gotta rethink my plans for the ZX2. The car (well, shell of a car) is actually currently for sale. But if it doesn't sell, I has a idea I might carry out.

    I always wanted a high-revving, very responsive car (It had initially been my intent when I got the ZX2, but the Zetec engine just doesn't perform so well in N/A form). I still plan to stick with the FE3, but in a mild build N/A form.

    Now heres where things get tricky. I know in order to tune a EFI engine, I will need some sort of tuning software and hardware, maybe even a expensive and complected standalone. Thats just not a option for me. So I came back to something that I heavily researched for my old Corolla, and something that my dad has ALOT of experience in, and thats carburetors. More superficially, Yamaha R1 carbs. These carbs are alot more advance then the old Webers and have a tone of support. I know alot of people frown upon carbs on modern engines, but these carbs has been used to great success on a number of engines and made great numbers.

    Making a manifold is not a issue, spark is. I've read that a E5 dizzy can be used in the FE3 to go carb. Is this true?

      Thats one reason I want to go carbs;

      ITB'S + manifold = $1500
      Standalone EMS =~$1500
      Ton of wiring and computers to deal with = no f'n way, lol

      I can make a manifold for the carbs for about $200 + R1 carbs (~$200) + jet kit = ~$500 with no wiring or computers to mess with, but with the same performance

          Carb motors don't need a management system, just a good ear and screwdriver.

          Yes, but the G-series trans are not as strong, and I'll be limited by that. A E153 swap would solve that, but the cost of having a adapter plate made + fabbing trans mounts just isn't in it for me. The SR20 just has a much larger support with parts and tuning, especially in my area. I think a carb'd N/A FE3 in a ZX2 would make for a great AutoX machine.

          Thanks, but right now I'm focusing on just getting the engine in.

            Wow. Ok, get this. My FE3 into ZX2 project got over my head back then and sold it, killed me. I now have a 97 Escort Sedan that I 5spd swapped with a ZX2 trans, I love it. And because I love it nothing crazy will be done to it. However, I did buy a perfect running 2001 Kia sportage 5spd from a aunt. Its been sitting in my yard, I wasnt sure what to do with it, but knew the FE3 in it was going to be used....

            Heres where things get weird, that 89 Sentra I had? I just bought it back with a blown motor for $100. Anybody see where I'm going with this?

            FE3-323, BP management to control the FE3? Please, tell more..

                Reason I was hoping is to use a readily available MS plug and play for the BP on the FE3 for boost.
