I'm seeing quite a bit of good news on this the previous page.

I bought a Celica All-Trac transaxle, rear differential, and adaptor plate from trailrider098 over the weekend.

Replaced the blower motor and cleaned the mouse nest out of the cowl. Argh. Apparently, the car didn't get driven enough over the past few months.

I'm debating on replacing the blower motor. ATM not sure if it's the controller or the motor itself. How difficult is it to replace? Does the dash have to be removed?

Nah. It was super simple. Three screws and it drops out of the bottom. AutoZone had the best deal on a replacement, and it came with a lifetime warranty. I'm glad, since it was a VDO superChinese part. I had to swap the wheel from my old one to the new one, but that was simple, too. It would've been a 20 minute job if I hadn't also needed to disassemble the cowl to clean out the mouse mess.

New Rear hatch struts arrived today. Installed those right away. They're pretty useful for right now. It's great having a hatch that stay open!!!

Work and the heat have kicked my ass this week.

Compression test numbers were unexpected, but I think the tester I rented read weak or the one I got a few weeks ago read stupid high, 150 was the highest cylinder pressure I got on cylinder 1 and that has been a 175-180 cylinder for years. There is no way I knocked enough material off the exhaust valves to lower the compression that much. Oddly enough with "worse" numbers all around I've now got an engine that is in "good enough" spec 150/125/130/150. I also have no bleeding between 2-3 at whatever absurd pressure(it's over 180psi) the shop has their air at.

I've redone the thermo inlet again and it leaks significantly less, to the point the coolant system actually pressurizes now. At this point I think something is warped as I'm bad at doing gaskets in car, but not this bad. Also the fact I'm having to double the FSM torque specs on cleaned bolts to make it even close to sealing is alarming.

Today I took about 2 inches off my battery tie down rods as I busted a knuckle on them the past weekend and decided they needed to learn a lesson.

Here are some random and horrible shots from the weekend. Due to factors I wasn't very picture heavy. I didn't even take any after photos of the head or pistons after I cleaned them up, I'm a real dirtbag.

I managed to get to this point in like 2.5 hours. Had the valved not looked so rubbish I might of done this in one 6-7 hours session.(who am I kidding)

I was pretty happy with how cylinders 1 and 4 looked

                    2/3 were not as happy

That picture quality though. I'm glad I rotated the engine around for a good shot of the pistons. It's like I'm dumb.

The valved for 1/4 looked bad

I chiseled the bulk off with small wood wedge, I am a redneck at heart. You'll be hard pressed to damage anything unless you smack the head directly with hammer though.

I could not find a machine shop that would take my head on a Friday evening/Saturday morning so I had to hand sand it 400 then 600 grit. I alternated carb cleaner and brake cleaner as my wet sanding liquid. I did not managed to take a picture that looked remotely decent of either the block or head after I finished. If you're going to hand sand throw some grease in the cylinder bores to capture particles the coolant and oil jackets will just have to fiend for themselves. Better yet don't hand sand it. I live on a tiny island in the pacific you probably don't.

Here is a picture of the cause of this entire process.

                    What a cunt.
On the bright side if it were a composite gasket instead of MLS it would of probably blown the failure into one of the bores and probably made quite the mess.

I also ordered an elbow for my baby potato as I've decided to call it.

over 75% chance it's the correct 5 bolt flange! I'm fine with slotting it. This was the best course of action for me as I HATE welded dumps and this works on other fwd's with A/C. The only cause for nonfitment is it's designed for a drivers side(US) exhaust orientation so it MAY point the exhaust a little close to the radiator. I got one for $100 shipped which is cheaper than the pulsar **** that would of been bolt on or around the price of the 240 stuff I would of had to hack up.

I also lost the bolt I luckily scavenged from a truck that was going to work with the mpv alternator. Lowes had a 100mm bolt that will work in the interim while I wait for a proper length(~120mm) one from mazda.

Had I not put 200+ miles on after it popped I doubt it would of been so blatant.

Today I fixed my thermo housing leak, installed the remand MPV alt, ran a new 4 gauge wire from alt to battery(**** trying to run 0) and adjusted how the damn fan switch routes so maybe it'll work for an extended period of time.

I tried to pull the cat portion of my exhaust as it needs new gaskets but I rounded off every one of the bolts/nuts and decided it would be best for another day.

Tried to set timing today, I had forgotten how abysmal it is with all the accessories. Broke my inspection mirror in the process. If I had to guess it's about 14ยบ advanced right now.

Bumped the idle adjust screw down while I had the diagnosis port jumped. Sits still on the second tach dash now.

Getting decent mileage this tank considering the high amount of repair/inspection idle time it's seen.

Exhaust leak has gotten worse. I'll have to see if I have any spare exhaust bolts before I destroy the ones on there currently by removing them.

I also test fit a 5w glove box light. It was not bright enough so I'm going to run a similar led strip like in my trunk for maximum jdmtyte lumens.
