    changed the fuel filter, found coolant on the plastic shields. gonna take them off tomorrow to see if I can find the leak.

        I am really not sure how it happened. The plug was a little tight since i got a little oil on the threads. Really it should not have cracked. Might have been poor quality plug but I don't really know.

            I drove the protege to a couple of drift events this weekend. A little over 500 miles in two days without a single hiccup. I love how reliable this car has been for the past 4 or 5 years. Just changed the oil and kept air in the tires and it's never let me down.

              finally changed my rear trailing arms since they were rusted cracked and craptastic

                some thing happened to my friends Celica 5SFE engine. Plug shattered inside in the engine while he was driving home from work.
                i believe it was an autolight brand plug.

                He has since swapped a 3SGTE in it and started using NGK plugs

                  The wife decided she likes my Protege, so I'm giving it to her. I've decided to part with some things in the engine bay, including the turbo setup.

                  Since I'm putting it back to stock (engine wise), I figured I'd do it the best I could. I happened to find a car at my local yard with the tubular header, so I snagged it and the down pipe. Every one of the heat shield bolts broke off in the process, leading to this:

                  Step one: grind off heat shield mounting tabs.



                  Step 2: blend.



                  Step 3: sandblast.



                  I'll be spraying it with ceramic coating spray paint before I put it in to keep it from rusting.

                      All I did to mine was go out and look at the poor dead thing, trying to decide whether it's worth trailering it 1.5 hr away to the shop with the lift to strip parts, or whether to leave it here, strip whatever topside parts I can, including surviving fenders and doors, then drain fluids and give it the tractor rotisserie treatment to get the rest of the parts out..

                        Pulled the oil drain off the turbo after jacking up the front end and still had a trickle of oil run out .

                        Anyone have a source for the gasket?

                            prefer gaskets tbh .. cant tell if you end up squishing a bit of rtv into the tube .. no worries the one from a vj11/14 should work nicely .
