Hi All, I'm Carl from New Zealand and this is my project Ford Laser TX3, the same shell as your US 2nd gen escort. Jim Pierce motorsport supplied the carbon parts!

Anyway after a 4 year build my car is tuned and nearly road legal.

My new car is a 1990 tx3 that i got because it has a steel 6 point cage in it. saved me time and money to buy this.

Done 700ks now. Nearly time to dyno tune!

New rims were fitted today, transformed the look of the car.

VVT sure does work.


Post from my tuning shop, E&H motors, tuner is also named Carl.
Variable valve timing (VVT) tuning. Each line represents a different relationship of valve timing to crankshaft position. Carl does this to get a baseline of where the VVT wants to be, and then takes the best points of the results and incorporates that into the VVT map. We can have a car that is super responsive and makes boost quickly, but will not lose massive amounts of power up top because of too much overlap. E.g. the green and red lines have high amounts of VVT advance (intake), which causes then to spool up quickly but reduces the amount of top end power. This doesn't only apply to full throttle runs though! Valve advance and overlap can be reduced when cruising for better fuel economy too!
