The issues with this car just never seem to stop. My '93 Protege LX just dropped a big ole fun one into my lap. While I was backing out of a parking spot the shifter dropped down. It appears that there was a hard rubber isolater that attached the shift Lever and the control rod to the extension rod, and it has decided to say, "**** you I'm out!" The only thing keeping the shift linage and everything from grinding into the pavement is the exhaust. Where can I find a replacement for this, or should I just have the damn thing welded together and say **** it? If need be I'll take some pictures to clarify.

Shifter fell through.

no need for pics .. as a short term fix take 2-1.5" self tapping screws and run them through the tabs ( if you look down at the shifter you will see 2 " bumps" one either side of the assembly) this is where the rubber was bonded to the metal frame of the assembly. be sure the rubber is all the way in and the screws will go through the metal into the rubber. i did this with mine several years ago and it is still holding up . an alternative is to make an anti-drop bracket which will require welding

Closest thing I could find with a quick Google search. It's not a tear-down tutorial, but it shows all the pieces and fasteners to give you an idea. If it's anything like a BH, it should be pretty simple to remove. I would also take the opportunity to clean up under the consoles while you have them out of the way.

Thanks for the diagrams and pointers folks. Got this issue fixed using a bracket I got from a dude I found on the MX-3.com site who's made them in the past.
Dropped gear shifter:
Bracket:
Installed:
I did not have to drop the exhaust but I did disconnect the extension bar assembly so I could R/R the plate the plate to drill the hole.
