    4000ft elevation = boom

Riding on the cherohala skyway coming down from the top and I was just crusing taking it easy. 4th gear at like 3k rpms and it just went boom. Looked in my rear view mirror and saw a giant cloud of smoke and chunks flying down the road. Tach was still reading rpms so I shut it off and pulled off the road and found out what happened. here's some of the carnage that I could pull through the bottom of the oil pan. Unfortunately it took the trans with it and split out the belhousing when it blew the block open. SO I've gotta figure out what I'm going to do. dammittt.

Sucks to hear. I hate when motors blow and they aren't even being pushed hard. Good thing motors are cheap.

Woah! It s***s a big time. That's why a baro must be functionnal or installed. I know how you feel; throwing money by the windows isn't fun at all.

Yeah it is. In the interest of it not happening again, what's the history on this engine? Cuz it shouldn't throw rod from lean no load, it shoulda just melted a piston or four. Something else made it puke.

Junkyard bp with about 100k, 10k or so on a vj20 setup. Nothing crazy. 230 whp, so I know I wasn't anywhere near what a stock bottom end can hold.

Ya I agree with Jay, I was going to mention your cruising a/f ratios but that doesn't seem anything near that type of damage lol.

Never thought the elevation would have messed with the tune though! I'm guessing all your gauges were pointing "safe" while you were cruising around?

I spect being at four grand elevation when it popped was just coincidence and it was gonna let go at some time or another anyway. An autopsy would be informative. Just one rod? All 4? Piston tops have a tale of woe to tell?
