    Dual gtr rescue project

    So after a unfortunate event i now own this GTR, or fortunate depending on how u look at it. Long story short guy wanted to swap my 250cc bike for this plus 1k cash his way. He binned my motorbike so i now own this (didnt pay him a cent). its had a hard life by the look of it. Previous owner stacked it into a tree stump im guessing (he said an old lady backed into him, yeah right) . Putting a fold and small bend in the rail by the crush zone, making the grill into 2/3rds what it used to be. If he owned it much longer im sure it would of went to the crusher or been completely written off
    Gave it an oil and filter change replaced the plugs. Sounds alot better now.

    This is after some home panel beating and replacing the passengers headlight and guard. as u can see nothing in that corner lines up properly









    Replaced the bumper and found some facelift tail lights by accident while looking for a gearbox for a mates car.
    They were nice and bright to start with but getting rid of the scratches i sanded them back with 1500 and 2000g sandpaper and the hose constantly running over the lights. Then clear coated them to make them look nice again. A mate dropped one fitting it and cracked it










    i drove it around un-road worthy for a few weeks then the brakes started locking on. so i quickly got a small run about and sat this aside looking for another shell to plant the engine and gearbox into. one popped up for sale but dude to being injured at work and having my hours cut i could not afford it at the time.
    it got sold to some else and they couldnt find any gtr parts so decided to let me pay it off. as he knew i had a stuffed chassis but a running engine. im going to pick it up this weekend

    so the red gtr sat for a few months and over the last couple of weekend i pulled out the engine and box getting it ready for the new shell.

    the disgraceful intercooler setup all bent out of shape, as you can see i ran out of cable ties and had to use a bungi cord :oops:




    Which in turn pushed all this out of place so here is the damage to the car and chassis rail from when the "old lady" reversed into it
    the car is not straight over the pit but look at the strut brace compared to the angle of the lower radiator support

      fully got the motor and box out.

      the gearbox has a F code stamped on it. so i think it is a bg carby 4wd box i couldnt find any other numbers anywhere on it.
      turn the transfer and half turn is smooth and the next half is really tight and hard to turn. so ill say its shagged.

      was just going to chuck the engine into the new shell but compression was down slightly on 2 nd 3. pulled it apart and found a steel headgasket not in the best shape between the cylinders. and number 4 was a bit oily so new rings and bearings will be going in too. slight detonation marks but nothing really bad.
      looks like it had a popped a head gasket at some stage and sat for a while. the bash plate between the sump and crank has a water line and minor pitting . looks like the head got reconditioned or at least cleaned. as took the rocker cover off and no sludge build up anywhere just dirty oil, same with the sump.

      i think this is the reason it felt a bit sluggish on the drive round to my friends to drop the motor and box lol.

      the ecu didnt have any numbers on the stickers they were all rubbed off. but

        The ecu is a gtr ecu, the code in it is the one from the gtr. the code written on the top of the connector is 378 with is the jdm gtr ecu code.

          havent updated the build like should of.
          Been mostly busy working fixing my ****box daily etc. but finally some more progress.
          Put the bottom end together. Phone died so i only got a few photos





          so sick of cleaning down parts. gasket goo and paper is a pain in the ass.
          So i ordered a new clutch left the old one with them and went to pick it up a week later. The one i got quoted was wrong, so they sent the old one way and got it rebuilt and clamped set to 1500 ft/lbs. Could of had it done to 2000 but im not racing it so its good.
          The clutch in the car has a 6mm step were abouts the one in the book has a 20mm step. Not sure whats going on there. But it is 230mm and bp26 on the back of my flywheel.



          Picking up my gearbox next weekend i hope. Rest of the engine will go together during the week.

            Plate mod



            Gtx/Gtr box on the left Fe3 4wd box on the right, very similar but different too.
            The selector styles completely different, gtr box has wider dif with 8 planetary gears the fe3 box is narrower and only has 6 planetary gears. He also has a fe3 box with the wider style dif part and 8 planetary gears.
            And the gtr box is wider at the top were it bolts to the engine compared to the fe3 box



            Sorted out some of the wiring and a few little bits etc today. Doing some more general work during the week and hopefuly engine and box in on the weekend.

              Had a mammoth last few days working on the car 2am finishes, got to the stage were i hit my face with a spanner and wire brushed my hand. So it was time to knock of then while im ahead.
              Got the engine and box in. Cleaned up front cvs, new grease nd rings. Painting the boot and alot of fittings and brackets like tow hooks, radiator mounts etc . Fixed surface rust that was starting to form. Fish oiled the front rails and underside of the car. Gearbox transfer and dif oil.
              Finding heaps of gremlin things that people have done in the past. Wound the rear brake bleeders in so tight the whole got burred over and wouldn't bleed.
              Forgot a change of shoes so ended up doing a days work in my Sunday shoes lol. Surprised they didnt fall to bits.






              all thats left is plum the intercooler, connect the downpipe, tidy the ignition wires, full radiator with water, fit the interior and a few other general bits and bobs

                Wow, keep at it and keep us posted. This is quiet the project. By the way if you ever part out the buggered up shell I would like to buy the knuckles and brakes! Do you have a thread for your bfmr?

                  The buggered up shell can be raced in the local car club as is. I knew about the rail damage but i didnt notice the missing rear brake caliper when the guy took my bike for a test drive nd crashed it. It had the hose plugged up woth a bolt so the other 3 brakes worked. So i will probably run a b6 dohc fwd non Turbo set up nd run lantis 5 stud rear hubs. Just because of the way the classes work and it will be just for fun not competitive. I have a tread on amazd about my bfmr but it was just a daily.,

                    couldnt find a turbo outlet gasket on saturday so i bought a T3 inlet part number TUR001


                    and here is the original gasket center to center on the bolt spacings are 90mm x 50mm and the ID of the hole is 60mm



                    the downpipe tapers down from 60mm to 55 right after the gasket so the T3 gasket is only sticking out 2.5mm each side and i had to cut the outside edges off the bolt holes on an angle and it fits snug in place on the studs. (ill take a photo tonight of the cut gasket)

                    hopefully this will do the job untill i get a proper gasket or a slightly larger downpipe made to suit the rest of the exhaust.
