clement_ghost --- Never stop the progress...

Here begins my project. We're in late 1999 and my older brother buys his first car: a wonderful 2000 Mazda Protege SE.

Six years later, while he bought his 2006 Nissan Xterra Offroad, he sells it to me for a cheap price with a couple of goodies already on it like an OBX header, Cosmo Racing CAI, B&M short shifter, MSP axleback (round), and a nice set of bronze 15'' Konig Helium wheels.

Then began the slow process of my project. I start by purchasing a used FS-DE engine and sand-blast/paint every little part.

Also rebuilted myself a GT17 turbo... and bought a GT2860RS for the FS engine.

And here's a couple of parts I bought with some others I sand-blasted.

Here are the parts necessary for a 5lug/4disks conversion.

MS6 brakes... that was in 2006 so it was a test since nobody have tried this yet back then.

Integral Racing cams next to OEM FS-DE cams

Then decided to start cleaning a little bit the car. I took off the front/rear bumpers, fenders, headlight/tail light. Then I sand-blasted every little spot of rust under the entire car and under the parts I removed and painted all with black rust-proof paint. I sprayed Gravelguard over the paint under the entire car and in the fenders.

    Before

    Sand-blasted

    After

Bought some body parts from Corksport (except the grille is from e-bay... cheap sh*t)

    And here begins the mods:

    Before

    Everything off

And then we put all back together

What I did there is a handling/braking improvement by installing these components:
-sand-blasted/painted front control arms with Pedders urethane bushings
    -front P5 swaybar
    -front/rear AWR adjustable end links
-front/rear Eibach ground control coil-over sleeves on Mazdaspeed B-spec adjustable struts
    -sand-blasted/painted front P5 spindles/hubs
-front mazdaspeed 6 brakes (caliper/disk/pads all OEM)
    -Russell SS brake lines front/rear
    -rear Racing Beat swaybar
-rear Energy Suspension swaybar urethane bushings
    -AWR trailing arms
    -sand-blasted/painted rear P5 spindles/hubs
    -sand-blasted/painted rear MX-6 V6 1996 brakes (Brembo plain disks w/Hawk Black pads)
-brand new P5 transversal arms with all bolts/washers/etc
-brand new rear brake dust shields (painted of course)
    -Corksport urethane exhaust hangers
    -Corksport urethane shifter bushing
    -Corksport Bronzoil shifter linkage bushings
-brand new all 3 hand brake cables
    -Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid

Good thing I installed my Tom Motorsport seats before!

Then shipped the car to a good friend for a complete paint job since body/paint is the only thing on my car I wouldn't touch cause I s*ck at it!!!

And from that day, the car never saw a winter anymore...

    Solution for a CF trunk:

When I got my ZM out for a refresh... I kind of like that pic!

Then began the fun... even with a bonestock ZM

    Cleaned and reinforced my coilovers

      Still buying some other parts

      Making myself a better exhaust.

And making some place for the next engine bay setup.

I am almost finally happy of my car... looks good with a pleasant power/handling/braking/styling harmony. But always still want to progress.

Here's how it looked last year

And the car looks almost like this right now. It's hard to have up-to-date pics since my project never stops the progress.

And pics from my last photoshoot

      Thanks for looking!!!

And a little bonus, I convinced my girlfriend to trade her 2011 Hyundai Tucson GLS AWD for a 2011 Mazda CX-7 GX ''luxury group''. Stock on this pic but I got her RX-8 wheels, LED's all-around, 8000K HID, passwordJDM fender washers on license plate. Since it's a N/A 2.5L engine, it doesn't have much parts I can put on it, but still trying to put some classy goodies.

        And here's my girlfriend's Mazda...

The mirrors are TCS carbon fiber mirrors. Had a deal on them while one of my OEM mirror were kind of broken so...

Hood scoop is universal. I wanted more fresh air for the engine air filter inlet.

Carbon fiber trunk damper is a Acura RSX tailgate damper. I then took old honda civic pivot ball screws.

                  Thanks for comments guys!!!

Attention to mother loving detail! Damn. Great work, looks real nice.

The last picture in post #3 is my absolute favorite.

Wish I had the time to do this. Someday I will, and I'll be using some of your ideas concerning rust care and prevention.

Oh... I revised my project thread and there's a big part missing.

                        There it goes:

Then I got tired of having no power with the ZM and no money to finish the built of my FS... so I bought 1.5'' stainless pipes and decided to put my free GT17 on the ZM.

As I hurt my back during winter, I decided to refresh my interior with some gray suede and 3M carbon fiber vinyl but a real CF shift knob.

                        With some brodery...

That part was hard to do because its part of the dash

Then my old struts were finished and discontinued... so I decided to upgrade the suspension with a set of STD R3

I don't really care about how much power from my ZM. I just wanted more power from that lazy 105hp ZM until I finish my FS build. For now I should be at about 200hp approx.
