I've decided to scrap the rear seat delete idea. Only 2 more weeks of school then this build thread should blow up because after 2 years of collecting parts I can finally tear into it! I'm excited yet at the same time trying to focus on school finals lol

I collected parts and info for years as well. Patience. It's worth it only when life around you is in place first.

So these are the cast pistons that came in my rebuild kit...they say they meet or exceed oem...if it were you guys would you run the pistons that are IN the car now from the factory or run these oem replacements...

just got your pm if your running forged internals forget stock m8 you can get forged pistons that run on the stock oem bore size for the block or you can always just bore the block out and get more power

Hey I trust my OEM pistons with my GTX setup, so why not use em? What kind of power are you wanting to put down? +250?

if hes running forged crank forged rods etc dont it make sense to get forged pistons why just go half assed on the forged internals just makes no sense plus if he will be running stock gtx setup the forged part will more then probaly be for a upgrade later in time becuase the vj-20 gets boring after awhile

Well the forged crank is factory and the forged H-beams I got were a little over 200 with ARP con rod bolts. At the time I was looking at rods I was seeing around 130 plus shipping for b6t rods without ARP con rod bolts...so I figured why not spend 200 and get the H beams with ARP...so that's why I have forged everything except pistons. I bought the rebuild kit with those ^ cast pistons which say they "meet or exceed" oem. The vj20 is about as far as I plan to go. As much as I love the Escort it's not the car I want to make a BA street car...just something nice and decently fast.

Do you have the GTX with lower compression pistons or the BP with 9:1cr?

n/a BP ftw, screw that 8.2:1 c/r....I'd never run that low on a BP haha. My lowest is the stock n/a stuff which has been said to be around 9:1 (8.8:1 from some ppl as well).

You could just save for some nice pistons, and then if you ever get tired of 200-220whp from the GTX...you can toss whatever the trans will take haha.

Supertech pistons are pretty cheap last time I checked (found them for like +90ea shipped to the US a few times), and they come in a huge variety of c/r ratios too

I can get the forged pistons now, but that pretty much means no paint job for my car lol :/ Oh the joys of figuring out how to spend a tax return...haha

I think I'm gonna get the Supertech 84mm 9:1cr pistons w/rings. Apparently you can't get any forged pistons, besides CP pistons, with OEM bore size.

well crap, you're right! I never realized that...seems a few companies don't make the standard 83mm bore...Wiseco and CP are the only ones it seems. Sucks that they're around $130ea...but oh well lol
