    IanTBoyd's Protege 4wd

Welp, I've been putting this off long enough. I picked up a pro4wd off of deadly_sleeper back in august and drug it back home. Since then I have been acuiring as many parts as I can in hopes that I will have time and weather on my side in the spring to get it going. This is not a logical project by any means. I will be spending more money and more time on this car then I could ever dream of getting back out of it but in the end it should be as nice a early 90's japanese econobox as you can get. Besides it will still be far cheaper than buying an evo and modding that, so I consider my self ahead lol. Would like to give a special thanks to my wife for allowing me to be so dumb, not to mention often my parts migrate into the bedroom and other various parts of our home. Also, Bo gaut for taking much of my money in return for parts I am too lazy or uncapable of sourcing my self!

05/04/2013 - Um, so I picked up another pro4wd due to the damage of the red car. Good news is my wife says I can keep the red one too!! I have enough parts to build both, so I think I will.

Lets start with goals of the build:

    Drivetrain:

    GTR BPD long block
    webcam 505 +2.5 cams
    Corksport adjustable cam gears
    gtr intake manifold
Dual feed billet fuel rail(May be some sort of early m-tuned)
    Fuelab RRFPR
Denso 660cc fuel injectors (for now)
    Gtr exhaust manifold
    vj-23 turbo
externally gated stainless downpipe (turbosmart racegate 48mm)
    lightweight flywheel

    MTX-L wideband setup
    Megasquirt (have ms2 considering ms3-pro)
    alky injection

    USDM protege 4wd tranny
    Evo brass shifterr bushings
    filled mounts
    Ferdi 4wd crossmember bushings
GTR drive shaft(if its different from a regular one lol)
    eventually GT4 conversion

    Suspension and Brakes
Five lug conversion on all corners (involving all new spindle hardware, bearings and seals)
    4-piston front brake conversion
kyb gr2 with ground control sleeves and H&R spings (till I get k-sports)
    Poly bushings everywhere
new balljoints, inner and outer tierods (etc.)
probably replace axle grease and boots
    Pierce motorsports strut bar(s)
    Pending- FE3's traction bar

    Cooling
Custom aluminum radiator to sit where a/c evaperatorr sits
    new hoses and heater core

    Interior
    GTR front seats
    clean and dye carpet
manual seat belt conversion (live close to canada)
    black interior conversion
Headliner and door panel inserts to be rercovered in suede material to match gtr seats
Rear seats to be re-upholstered similar to front seats
    TBD- clean gauge installation
wink mirror ( loved it in my egt)
N/A audio system (again loved it in my egt)

    Exterior
    Three-hole front bumperr with lip
    yellow lens round fog-light grill
    EDM Projector Grill
    non-usdm corners
tyc front lights with Projector retrofit
    rear familia garnish
    series 2 rear bumper
New front frame horns and radiator support
    foha side skirts
    foha rear deck lip spoiler
    wedsport tc105n 17x9 +25
    mazda rainguards
    tinted windows
lx body match handles and mirros

FULL body re-color (need some input; thinking white or silver)

Now the pictuers! car and parts so far:

    following me home!

Haha. Resale value is a silly thing to worry about when you're building a 23 year old econobox anyway. It's good (comparatively) cheap fun. Oh and the GT-R driveshaft is too short for a four door. Use what you've got or build something stronger.

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

Paint it white! White looks so good when it's done right. It's funny, you and Bo are both using a set of my old coilovers. Cannot wait to see this thing get started, it's basically what I wanted my 4wd like when it was finished. Except I had to make all my own parts because I was poor lol.

I've been hoarding for awhile now, not too mention living close (relatively speaking) to Bo helps a lot too. I had a few hours at the airport so I decided to start this thread. So progress will be intermittent at best for the next 2 months or so.

I am hoping that, after I am done with Alaska, my wife and I will find a house we want and can afford so I can really get to work. I am holding off on taking the car down completely since we are renting and it will be easier to move if it's somewhat together.

That being said, I will probably start cleaning the engine and tranny up soon and do gaskets and what not.

Bo- I am considering a dark grey/silver color for sure. It seems that it places nice with most other colors (thinking about what I want to have parts powder coated too) but on the other hand white is pretty classy. That day is certainly a ways off as well.

Beau- ya you definitely helped me out hahaha. I appreciate it. If you are considering selling some more baller wheels let me know.

                            Smallish lil bump.

Ordered pretty much all the gaskets I should need to get my block cleaned up. Will post pictures next week when I am home to get work done.

Gonna be helping a local member change his clutch on Saturday. My post pics of that too.

Got some really cool parts in the works as well I can't wait to share. Unfortunately/fortunately my stay up here in Alaska has been extended to the end of may, so other than parts hoarding, I will be limited to what I can get done in a week every so often.

What are people's opinions on the hondata phenolic intake gasket/spacer? I went a he's and ordered it because on my Gtx setup my intake would burn my hand. Last question is, if using it should I sandwich it between two plain gaskets?
