    Dash lights dim with headlights

Not a lot of activity in this part of the forum.
Our 2006 3 Hatch has this annoying problem of dimming the dash lights when you turn on the head lights. It's not a problem at night but in low visibility conditions during daytime driving I can't see the instrument panel. Yes, I turned the adjustment all the way up but it's still too dim.
    Ideas?

Bad alternator or battery? Turning on the headlights puts a load on the electrical system and the voltage is probably dropping a bit too much. If you have a voltmeter you can check the voltage before and after you turn on the lights.
