jay92gt's 94 EGT BPT build thread

Thats right I'm back in the BG game. I just picked this bad boy up tonight. Its a 94 GT.

    The good:

    Very little rust
    Clean interior
    Clean title
    Some aftermarket bits
    Spare tranny(needs rebuild)

    The bad:

    Paint is rough
    Blown head gasket
    Destroyed front bumper

My plan is take all my parts from my 92 GT and my current rusted out autox car and make one bad ass SMF spec escort. More pics to come.......

I always find when I pick up a BG chassis it needs basically everything haha. I haven't owned one that didn't get belts, fluids, tune up and suspension/brake work...people just can't seem to maintain these guys it seems lol.

Hey congrats on the GT. They're fun to autocross. What class do you plan on running in?

I used to run a 91 GT years ago here on the West Coast. If you need any parts, I got a lot of em'. custom tokico cartridge rear struts, Millen 1" rear SB and strut tower brace. 5-spd. Transaxle w/LSD, custom 4-1 headers, Delron bushings front and rear susp. Metal con. arm bushings(front), lightened body parts(hatch, doors, hood and chassis), lexan side(they open!)and rear hatch windows

I plan on running SMF I had a 92 that I autoxed years ago in SM class been running my 98 ZX2 in FSP the last 2 years but its all rotted out now from the lovely salt we use on our roads. I might be interested in the LSD what type and how much you want for it? I don't need the whole transmission just the LSD that would cost a fortune to ship.

Sorry, I'm not taking the transaxle apart to pull the LSD out. I'd like to sell the car to someone interested in completing it as an EP car. I got the 91-94 GT approved for E-Prepared with the SEB back in 1999 but never finished the car. It was an OSP car(open street prepared)for it's whole life but I went a different direction in autocross half-way through the conversion of the GT to EP. Still, at 1900 lbs. with a minor increase in hp of say 20-25%, I think it can be a very competitive car on the National level in the right hands.

                Good luck with your racing.

Finally after a few months got some time and pulled the drivetrain out amongst other things. Still a lot of work to go stay tuned.

Ok so I didn't get much done over the winter because it was so damn cold here but I did get the rest of the front end stripped down and ready to clean and remove some rust. More pics to come when I get some better looking pictures.

Spent about two and a half hours out in the garage today got the nose stripped the rest of the way down and cleaned about 90% of it ground off some rust and under coating and spot primed where I went down to metal.

Managed to get two coats of paint down on the engine bay and the wheel wells. Took a lot of work to get this far now I can start cleaning and reassembling the front end then I move onto the bottem of the car then the rear subframe and unibody.

Recent work. Front sub frame is cleaned painted and assembled along with a used reman rack that I cleaned up and put on new inners and poly rack bushings. Cleaned up my old fsb from the ZX2 and painted it.

Pulled the rear sub frame going to dismantle it put some new bushings in the trailing links paint everything but before that can be done I have to drop the gas tank remove any surface rust under the car and run new rear brake lines.

So I have ditched the whole turbo motor idea I can't make it feasible at this point in my life so I picked up a stock 91 motor from a local junk yard for $500 its super clean and looks to have come out of an automatic so I'm going to assume it hasn't been beaten to death. I plan on finishing the car this winter with a mild Street Prepared build so I can do some SCCA events and track nights with it I co drove at local events all year and I am really sick of having to bum rides. So wish me luck I'm going to need it.

Only thing you might want to be careful about is that appears to have a small nose crank...
