    Manual Seat Belts

Ok.... I NEED to get my car inspected soon and I don't have the funds for the racing seats and harnesses I want. Do they make manual seat belts instead of the automatic ones? If so where can I get them?

    thank yaaaaaaw

You need to bug a Canadian who will pull them from the wreckers. Usually costs around $100-115 for the belts/plastics/shipping...prices may have gone up since I use to sell the kits back in the day.

There's nothing local to me for BG stuff, so may want to post a WTB add.

Escort stuff swaps over to the Mazda chassis as well, just match the number of doors and you're golden. A & B pillar plastics swap over as well.

I'll let you know if you can wait a few weeks. I will be jumping over the border here in the next month to grab a bunch of manual seat belt setups.

I don't live in Canada eeyyy. But I though u meant escorts have manual seatbelts that swap over.

Thanks Iantboyd but I don't have a few weeks. I eather have to find some within a week or throw some harnesses in. Cause its illegal to drive without belts, and unsafe dun dun dunnnn.

You can make the manual belts out of a probe or late MX3 work. I've done both.

Ideally the 4dr canadien belts are what you want long term... but the others will get you by.

                  Here's a photo how-to of the basics.

Early 1g like 89 may work, but after that the US 1g's were auto. Mine were 2g stuff.

You need the notch, or cut above that... The metal spacer (in the track on the ground photo) is trying to occupy the space of the notch. Without the cut, you'll not be able to tighten the belts to the pillars, which isn't safe. Also the assembled photo of the bolt hole, track with notch, and hole'd plastic, is at an angle, and very deceptive. The notch is needed.

if its a manual belt why do you need the track, why not get ride of it? I though the track was for automatic. Sorry if this is going over my head but im confused.

The track is what attaches the plastic to the car.

The a-b pillar cover (plastic) has several (5 on a four door car, probably more on a two door) attachment points that go into the clips on the power belt track. Without the tracks, the plastic jiggles and sways, and there is also a tremendous gap where the slider used to reside (this is precisely why I notch rather than cut the track, to fill that gap completely. I'll take pics tomorrow...)

So, in short, it'll look terrible, and be even more annoying while driving, without the tracks.

Sorry, I was under the assumption you knew the plastic attached to the track directly... I SHOULD have mentioned that, but just so everyone reading is clear, the tracks are necessary for two purposes, looks, and mechanical attachment.

Also, for clarification as this is an international forum:

This is only for USDM Cars, which came equipped with power belts... Canadian, EDM and JDM cars will never need to utilize this info, unless using a USDM headliner and trim pieces.

good info thanks, I didn't realize because none of my safety belts, including the plastics that cover the tracks are there.

You wouldn't happen to have a spare set of manual probe belts that would do me good would you?

No. But it should be pretty simple to find something that would work. Having looked at both of my NB miata's seatbelts today, they might even work if they are long enough... just find something at the JY, and mock it up in an escort or protege... It should be easy to tell if it will be able to be done. They are all similar to an extent, and you might find something even easier than the probe or mx3. Both of those were just random attempts of mine, many many BG's ago... before I even knew of the Canadian stuff.
