JP Motorsports BG/BF/GT4 Rear subframe production and discussion.

Things are coming to fruition with this project and its finally time to share some juicy business.

Somewhere near the front of this year I contacted Jim about making these up, initially he said he would not make another one, so I thought "What about more than one?" I talked a few members into it and we were off to go after getting things lined out with all interested parties. They can feel free to speak up if they want.

4-5 units are going to be made.
Suspension pickup points are going to be adjusted for lowered cars and to increase track width.
Obviously going to be mounting a Celica GT4 rear end for strength.

Sorry to be so short with my first post in here, just wanted to get this started, ill be digging through my emails with Jim to discuss details up to this point. Jim will be peeking in here to share updates as things progress with the build.

    Happy motoring!

I'll stick a few pics up this weekend---we've had our hands on the GTX subframe, the escort subframe and jigged them both to produce the various units---the inner pivots were remarkably similar...I've been looking forward to starting this and we're 99% done with the rear tiebar group buy so this is now first in line!

Subbing! Is this a closed deal? I mean, I don't have any money at the moment anyway, but can people get in on this if they want one?
Before you criticize someone, first try walking a mile in their shoes. Because then you'll be a mile away, and you'll have their shoes...

Hey Kaleo---if you want to get in, we can work something out. It's a pretty serious commitment for this one---I did a couple a few years ago and had a full weeks worth of work in each piece---it just wasn't financially responsible/smart of me to do it again...when Beau approached me, I did actually initially say no, but when he said he could probably get 5 units it made more sense because I can save time/"mass produce" the pieces---even though now it looks like they'll be 2 units produced, one that fits into the stock escort chassis and one that fits into the AWD cars---and they have different mounting points. Here's a couple pics of the two crossmembers and the jig board---the unit on the jig is being drilled out to bolt into an escort. These units will be all tubular and considerably lighter like the earlier units.

What's your estimate of the finished weight of these, Jim?

Edit: I'm also slightly concerned about mine rusting during shipment. Do you have a powder coating guy?

I bet I weighed the other unit I built, and I bet I put it in that old thread...I'll see if I can dig it up, but I'll take a stab and say we can save between 20-30lbs from stock.

I have no idea on the stock weight, I'm just hoping it's under 40lbs for shipping purposes. Also, if you still have my number, give me a call when you're free.

Cool. I was just reading though some other random car forums about tubular rear subframes. All of their's are under 20lbs, so it shouldn't be too expensive to ship.

ID:	1236822I checked on that old thread, they'll come in around 25lbs (stock was over 50lbs!). This week we cut the main structure and then drilled the inner pivot holes for the sleeves---we've got the sleeve material---next week we'll cut it and start fitting the units together with end caps
