Alright, so I got the car on stands and just look at that mint exhaust:

Both sides are torn in the exact same place. Looks like I'll be replacing axles. Oh, and apparently '97 didn't have an intermediate shaft while '98 did.

Got one side on. Having trouble with the bolt hitting the transmission pan on the other side, though. I'll try jacking up the engine and see if that helps.

Update. Placed some pieces of wood on the jack and lifted the transmission through the crossmember slot.

She's ready for a quick spin around the neighborhood after I get cleaned up.

I thought about it, but I think I'm getting used to it. We'll see how this works for now. Can't really take it anywhere except my neighborhood since I can't get it registered until the previous owners get back from their vacation. I don't know when that'll be, but I hope before the end of summer.

Got the gauges working correctly again. Tach indicates a few rpm up or down of what my OBDII scanner was reading and the speedometer is about one mph fast, good enough for me. Coolant temp gauge was also corrected and sits right about where my '98 does when at 210-220 degrees. I'll have to fill up to make sure the gas gauge is right.

Oh and I apparently have a P1455 - Fuel gauge sender unit circuit malfunction. Engine light doesn't come on and I have noticed the fuel gauge showing really low and then back up to where it was when the car was delivered. I guess I have something to look at tomorrow now.

Tested the sending unit this morning. Moves freely and reads exactly what my Haynes manual says, 110 ohms empty and 2-4 ohms full (mine read 3 ohms full).

Does the system include the fuel gauge as part of the circuit? I did have the gauges unplugged when I connect my scanner.

City lights and fogs from last night. Didn't know the side markers lit up as well and I like how they alternate with the front turn signal.

Been wanting to give this thing a nice wash and wax and all that. Never did more than just wash my '98. Now the sun has to go away so I can do this.

The listing says their OEM and they're listed in a "Genuine Mazda Accessories" catalog. Judging by the other cars listed in the catalog, they might be a USDM option.

New axles should be here Saturday. I wanted to "upgrade" to an intermediate shaft and short passenger side axle, but couldn't find anywhere that carries the. intermediate shaft. Oh well, still just a stock Z5 so I'm not worried about torque steer.

Oh, and comparing the driving experience of this to my '98, wow. My '98 feels like a boat when steering compared to this. Could be my imagination or it could be the low profile tires on 17" wheels, Cusco lower tie bar and 19mm rear sway bar. The sway bar is adjustable, also, so I'll have to play with that some day.

Wish I could enjoy it more often, though. Still waiting for the PO to get back from vacation so I can get it registered.

But anyway, these are the left (top) and right (bottom) rear bumper skirts.

These are for the JDM bumper, so they're too short to fit the USDM. Two options; 1) I can chop these up and lengthen/remold them to fit my bumper, or 2) I can make molds from these and reshape those to fit the USDM bumper. I'm going with option 2.

Now, a question for any other BHA owners, if I were to make multiple copies to fit the USDM bumper, would anyone be interested in purchasing a set? I'll most likely be doing them in fiberglass, but could also purchase some carbon fiber if there's interest in that route.

Edit: So here's how the JDM skirts look on a USDM bumper being held on with surgical tape.

I can force it to shape better to the bumper, but the tape wasn't strong enough to hold it. When I make the copies, I'll make them a bit taller so I won't have to repaint my bumper to get rid of the black between the skirt and painted part of the bumper. I also want to extend them around the back a little bit more. Shouldn't be too hard once I get it started.
